Date Entry in the Finish Field

Colin,

We've now run a couple of races that have spanned over 24 hours
period so I've got some feedback from the various Race Directors.

Finsh date: They weren't happy with the format (ie
30/12/2003@13:13:24). Their preferred format is (day:hrs:mins:secs)
where the hrs:mins:secs is the actual finish time and the day part
is the number of days elapsed. Apparently, this is the standard way
of doing this in other race scoring packages.

Start date: Their preference is to enter the start date and time in
the race properties field (ie Edit/Race...). If the time changes
(we delayed by 15mins because of a large container ship recently),
they would either change the race properties or override by class
using the Results dialog box.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the feedback...

Interestingly, I deliberatly avoided that simplification so that somebody
did not have to work out the number of days (not always trivial) and because
it mixes elapsed and start/finish concepts in one field; which I thought
could be confusing to the user...

Start date: Their preference is to enter the start date and time in

OK, that'll happen when I do the start stuff. Not much progress on anything
lately - real work is not allowing it...

Colin

Colin,

Let me go back to them and get this clarified.

I just regurgitated what they gave me.

It occurs to me that +1 days in +1:13:03:57 probably means 13:03:57
on the day after the race start, regardless of when the race
actually started.

So, for example, if the race started at 23:15:00 (not uncommon for
us - most of our starts are night starts), +1:13:03:57 would be an
elapsed time of 13:48:57.

Which, of course, isn't what they have been telling me.

I suspect they are getting themselves confused with the elapsed time
calcs.

Anyway, I'll try and find out for you.

Thanks; I realised you were the messenger... I would agree that the +1
would have to be a count of midnight boundaries, rather than the number of
24 hours periods, and as such is a relative finish day, so there would no
confusion (it's not an elapsed period). If that's OK with them, I can sort
it out this end.

PS: Mr Rinderle(B) contacted me a while ago concerned about the take
Sailwave was using and offering the original equations but he never sent
them...
