Hi Paul,
Thanks for the link. Yes, that's the plan; no "webmasters" needed,
everything is interactive including competitor facilities... but the
Sailwave service will be generalised one step more in that event managers
can create their own interactive sites for their events with a few clicks
and then just point at it from their web site. When that link is followed
it'll be a simplified incarnation of what your site does. The service is a
meta event management system in a way...

You might be interested to take a look at the Wilson Trophy website,

We have been using an online event management system for twelve months now,
allowing us to post news, email competitors, email potential competitors,
etc. This system allows the race committee complete control of the event, we
also got a way in which the competitors can log back into the system and
change their details without us ever having to get involved. This means that
if they change something it is uptodate.

I'm doing a fairly major rework of some of the Sailwave internal
infrastructure so that the number of races in a series is truly unlimited;
this involves using a completely different approach to the series summary
display, hence the magnitude of the job. I think its a worthwhile task
though - I don't like things with upper limits - it was just a quick way to
get started...
Away on holiday all next week; will not be available to answer SUG/private
messages.
I don't know if anybody is interested but at some stage in the future I'll
need some help beta testing an on-line (web based) sailing event management
system I've been fiddling with (mySQL/PHP). The idea is that you can create
event pages interactively on-line, allowing competitors to enter the event,
allowing you to post news, do mass emailings, upload NORs, SIs etc etc.
When you create an event you'll be supplied with 2 URLs - one to link from
your web site to publish the event and allow competitor entry etc - and one
to do the event admin. I hope to turn this into a pay-for service, but
it'll be free for a while... I almost forgot to say that at any time you
can save the competitor list to your computer as a Sailwave file -
completely eliminating the need for competitor data entry... I don't have a
name for this service yet. You'll be able to publish results from Sailwave
straight to your event pages as well.

Colin J
