Did Not Enter for a long series

We are thinking of switching to Sailwave for our long summer series. We use a custom high point. If a boat enters a race they get one point, even if DSQ, DNS, OCS etc. If a boat doesn't enter they get zero points for that race.

How do I implement that?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Art,

I did something similar at my club a while ago, I will dig out from

my archives a copy of the file so you can see the set-up. Be a few
days before I can do so.

Kind regards,

Huw

Hi Art,

I have just set up exactly what you are planning. The formula is S-P+1 (no of starters - position + 1). There is a tab which allows you to set DSQ,DNF etc as 1pt and DNC or DNS as 0. There are people on this forum who will tell you how to do it but for starters.i) open a file, ii) on the list of features on the left hand panel double click points system > high point formula. You should be able to work out the rest from there,

I fear you missed the point of my posting.

We are using a high point system (our formula is: 1 + ((((s-p)+0.5)/s)*9). Each race is entered individually but all the races are scores as a series at the end. If a boat doesn't enter she gets 0 points -- normally she would be DNC because she didn't come out to the starting area. If a boat enters but doesn't come out to the starting area she gets 1 point -- this boat is also DNC but with a different score. I need to know how to implement that. [We award 1 point for entering to encourage boats to enter on the theory that if entered they are more likely to actually race.]

I am thinking maybe I need to create custom codes: DNCe for Did Not Come out, failed to Enter and DNCr for Did Not Come out, but entered the Race. But when I print or publish results I would want both to show as "DNC" rather than "DNCe" or "DNCr."

Still wondering how to do this!

Assuming you have set the scoring codes to `typical high point’
(click the hand symbol at lower end of window), set DSQ, DNS, OCS
etc. to 1, leave DNC 0 - edit the appropriate scoring codes.

So what would I score a boat that enters a race but doesn't come out to the starting area?

You could score it DNS, although thats not strictly in the meaning,
or create a new code (ENT ?) scored like DNF, DNS.

Can you add an SI that states, “A competitor who enters their boat in the series shall be deemed to have come to the starting area for all races in that series.”

I think we would have to create a new code to be scored the same as DNC. Scoring DNS (or like DNF, DNS, etc.) would be a problem as our scoring system is based on the number of starters and that would muck up the formula. I was hoping there was a way to do this without having to create a new code, which requires amending rule A11 in the sailing instructions. But. I guess there isn't.

Also, we would have to explain the new code in the results, which you generally don't need to do with the standard codes.

Art

PS - 5 years ago A11 was a suggestion rather than a rule so you didn't have to formally amend it. Unfortunately, that is no longer true.
