Discard Help

I have a fleet who wants the number of races to count fro a series to be “#races sailed divided by 2 minus 1”.

I have tried all manner of settings in on the series scoring tab but for some reason whatever I type it’s being overridden and showing as “#races divided by 2 plus 1”

I have tried “S/2-1” already with no success.

I can’t remember if the variabes are case sensitive - but it’s worth trying s over S.

Marcellus,

I think the expression works out the number of races to discard rather than the number of races to count if that makes sense so may be sort of back to front.

If you can’t get the expression to work, you can always cheat and use a comma separated list like 0,0,0,1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5 etc where by Sailwave works out how many to discard as a series progresses from the list. I might be up at the club later so if you like I can show you how.

Perhaps what you want is

S/2-1+0.5

S can be upper or lower case

Enter the formula in the Discard profile box in the Edit scoring system

Following on from Chris Gandy - if races to count are s / 2 - 1; then no. of discards would be the remainder. s/2 + 1 ?

Thank you to everyone who has helped… it’s now been sorted!

I was wrongly trying to use a formula to show how many races I wanted left counting and not how many I wanted to discard!

So, yes the correct formulae are; “s/2+1” or “s+1/2”
