DNS & RET Points Query

Good Evening,

I have a query regarding the points calculated for DNS and RET codes in the attached series.

In race 1 there were 5 finishers so I would expect RET boats to be given 6 points (DNF + 1) rather than the 8 points given.

In race 2 there were 7 finishers so I would expect RET & DNS boats to be given 8 points (DNF + 1) rather than the 10 points given.

I’ve checked the properties for these codes which look correct to me.

Can anyone please can explain how the given points are derived.

As this series is dual scored I have attached the EHS handicap template file as well as the series SW file.

Hi Jools,

By default Sailwave scores as per RRS Appendix A 5.2, which for DNC, DNF, RET etc. which are scored ’ Number of boats in Series + 1’. To change so that DNF, RET etc. are scored ‘Number of Finishers + 1’ the series NoR has to changed to apply RRS Appendix A 5.3.

It is quick and easy to change from default RRS Appendix A 5.2 (default0 to RRS Appendix A 5.5. OPen Scoring system and click Scorig codes tab, at bottom left is a little hand icon. Click the little hand icon and select the option labelled ‘WS Appendix A long series’ to set codes points as per RRS Appendix A 5.3.

Note - if you have already made changes to scoring codes or add new codes they will be lost, so would have to be redone.

My Apologies. It was a long day in a hot race box - I seem to have confused boats that came to the race area with boats that finished. D’oh!

Now that I’ve realised this mistake the points calculated by SW are, of course, correct.

Hi Jools,

I checked your account and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to attach files. I do see you have later managed to upload some screenshots so that obviously worked. Let me know if you still have an issue.
