Dual Scoring without extra data entry...

We're looking at introducing a golf handicap alongside the standard
handicap in our Wednesday evening series... One of the challenges is
that I like to get the results out whilst folk are still at the club,
but by the time I've packed my boat up and entered the times in
Sailwave my supper is already getting cold and my beer getting flat...

So I need to be able to enter the data once and get sets of results
with different handicaps very quickly. Is there a way of doing this? I
was hoping that I could just rescore using a different handicapping
system, but there seems to be only one rating field for any
competitor...

ideas?
regards, Jim C

Use aliases

At St Mawes we use Club2000 for the membership database but as the
software is mainly targeted at golf clubs you could try www.club2000.co.uk

I obviously explained this extraordinarily badly, since neither reply seemed to address the problem... I guess I'd better post at greater length.

Its a summer long club series, and what we wish to do is to produce two sets of results, one with some kind of personal handicsap applied, and one with standard PY values.

I could maintain two sailwave files, one with the standard handicap against each competitor, and one with an adjusted handicap against each one. That would mean that I'd need to enter finish times for every competitor twice, and I really don't like that idea at all.

I looked at the scoring systems options, and I can see how I could produce two sets of results using different series scoring systems, but there seems to be no way that I can produce two sets of results using different ratings.

As far as I can understand from the sense I can make of the Sailwave data file there's a field for the competitor rating, and then a field for the race rating. What might work would be a check box on the scoring system options that disabled race ratings for that scoring system. Then I could have one set of results using the rrat values, and one using the comprating values. Is there any way to do this?

OK I could write an excel sheet, but the data entry in Sailwave is so very good and quick that I'd hate to get away from it.

Have you tried aliases (as suggested on 28 Feb)? In your case, each standard handicap competitor would have an alias with a (different) personal handicap in a different fleet. The elapsed times (or whatever) of the alias are the same as the original (standard HC) competitor (that is, you only enter one result for each real competitor), but the results are worked out using the personal handicap of the alias.
Take a look at our Wed Ev. results
www.lancingsc.org.uk/downloads/results/results08/weds_eve08.html

The only 'weakness' is that if you change H/caps during the series, the results summary only shows the original H/cap, but the individual race results do show the actual race H/cap.

Ah, alias didn't show up in the Sailwave help, so I didn't realise it was a special feature that might avoid double data entry.. I'll take a look.

Also remember to use the 'User interface' tab (have to have a series open to action this) to enable aliases

Yes, use aliases and have each alias have a different handicap.
