Europeans for Optimists

Hi,

Sweden is hosting the Europeans for Optimists this summer and are
now thinking of using Sailwave for the results.

Girls and boys will be sailing in different Fleets, but divided in
four groups.

Red, Blue Yellow and Green. Red meets Blue, Yellow meets green = R1
then Red meets Yellow and Blue meets Green = R2 and so on until all
groups have met twice (?).

This means that on each race you will have two "winners" etc.

How to handle this in Sailwave? One idéa could be to split the races
into two races and change the discard profile, but i don´t like to
use DNC.

Help me out!

Hi Anders,

In 1.52 you can set the race tie resolution to "Appendix K" - allowing more
than one 1st, 2nd etc per race. Let me know if you need some extensions to
Sailwave for this event because obviously it's in my interest for you to use
it... The new team result wizard would probably be useful to get some
informal fun results for which country or club boy/girl etc is doing the
best.

Colin

Sailwave will handle multiple firsts etc by choosing the appropriate race
tie break option, but Sailwave will not do the flight assignment and
reassignment. If you and Anders give me details of your SIs - I'll sort
something out; it seems like a good oppertunity to do this essential dev

There is a qualification series in which everyone sails.
The top 120 competitors then advance to the Championship Flight Selection
Series
This series determines who competes in the gold, silver, bronze, iron fleet

The gold fleet then sails form the National Championship.

The flights occur during the qualification and championship series.
The competitors are split into five flights.
Each flight sails against each other flight once and receives one bye.
The competitor is allowed to discard one of the four races they sail.

The BYE can be set up as a scoring code with 0 points.
Need to be able to score RED versus YELLOW, BLUE versus GREEN with multiple
1st, 2nd, etc.

Attached is the SI wording and the flights Appendix.

Thanks

12. SCORING
The Low-point scoring system of Appendix A will apply.

will be the total of her race scores. This changes Appendix A. Five (5)
races shall be sailed to constitute the series.

Hi Mark, (+ Anders).

Thanks for the details; I have squeezed in fleet/flight rotations as my top
priority main task. I don't think any changes are needed to scoring itself
(maybe for the bye) as it can already be done by selecting "None (Appendix
KE)" for tie resolution in Edit+ScoringSystem.

I was planning to use scoring codes to handle the bye... Probably a high
number; no. competitors +10, which would result in the BYE being discarded
first. We will try doing some testing using Appendix KE option. If we find

Hi Mark,

I'll sort out the 0 point problem for 1,54 which I will upload this weekend.
Sorry about that. Just to confirm that is the way to do it with what there
is at the moment. You don't really need to create the fleets in fact, just
enter the flight places and hit score, having set tie-breaking to "None
(Appendix KE)".

For 1.55 I will add a specific flight field, which can have a race specific
values; so that flight history is not lost; it's not actually needed for
scoring. You can then populate that value by hand or, use one of the tools
that'll be available to populate it based on the results of the previous
race, or leave alone and use the same value as the previous race. The
procedure then will be to run a race, score it then print off the flight
assignments for the next race if appropriate.

Mar,

Just a note about the BYE code. A fixed point of 0 will work, and not
effect the overall series points, but you need to tick the 'not discardable'
property as well, or increase the number of discards by one. Same end
result (I think). I've added BYE to the default code list - as
non-discardable 0 points.

Colin
