Excluded boats

Question: We have a sailing series which a boat is being sailed by the staff of the sailing club I
belong to. Their boat does not count towards the series scores. Any competitor who is DNC , DNF ,
DNS gets the number of boats sailing or registered except the staff boat + the appropriate points
(DNC: Registered + 2 , DNS: Sailing + 2 DNF: Sailing + 1) The staff boat is not counted as a
registered or a sailing boat. I have been using a made up code which I manually enter the points.
I cannot adjust the points awarded for each code since another fleet is scored along with the first
fleet and that would mess up their scoring (If I had DNC be Registered + 1 to discount the staff
boat, it would mess up the second fleet scoring). Is there a way to allow for the scoring of a boat
in a race without having the boat be one of the competitors or registered?

Hi Zeff,

I can't see a way to do this. Presumably the sailors of the staff boat want
to see how well they've done without that information affecting the reuslts
of everybody else; is that right?

Zeff,

I think I managed this in the past by entering the boat in question scoring
after data entry, then publishing the results for the race in question then
excluding the competitor and then publishing the series results. But it was
a long time ago.

Kind regards,
Huw

I think I have a solution for you which does not require any modification of
Sailwave... If you were to record the finish position of the staff boat
correctly when they finish, 1st, 2nd etc. but then enter them as retired in
the scoring code you will be able to get what you want. If you print the
results and show "recorded results" it will show the staff boat in 1st, 2nd
position, but the "scored points" would have them as retired.

I haven't tested this to see if it works, but it should work the way you
want.
