Hi all,
Is there a way of adding extra fields to competitor details, so these
can be used in prize calculation? I thought I'd seen such a facility in
Sailwave - but I may have been imagining it!

In user interface, select PRO, then you have access to the extra fields.

A couple more questions.
1. Selecting PRO gives me several extra fields - including Group. Is it
possible to define more (custom) fields?
2. If I can't define more fields, can I get Sailwave to automatically
select a set of competitors for a prize dependent on, say, group? Or do I
have to manually select the candidate sailors for each prize?

You can rename fields to get the number you want.
You can sort and score by field to get your prizes.

Currently if I recall correctly you cannot define more custom data field, it is in the development plan again if I recall correctly. However there is a possible work around for now if you want to record competitor dat that is currently defined. You could rename the defined fields that are not being used so they are labelled with the tag you wish to record; slight down side is that the fields do have different size properties that Colin supplied me with a while ago and I will see if I can dig out from the email archives - they may me listed in the Help file!
At present you have to manually pick the competitors eligible for a prize category you have created under Setup | Prizes on the menu bar, by sail number 
Again it is on the development plan to provide a more flexible way of selecting all competitors eligible for a prize as is the the plan to extend the publishing to allow the printing of more than just the winner of the prize category.
