Looking into a Laser Masters event where the Masters will be flighted into Qualifier and Finals but the Apprentice and Grand Masters will not. All will be on the same course with 4 starts. (2 Masters flights ) All will cross the same finish line so scoring as 1 series would allow the use of the sail number wizard. ( best thing since sliced bread!) Does anyone out there know if it can be done? What are the key configurations? I have setup the different fleets with different scoring but end up being conflicted between scoring the series based on flights or fleets. (I made the Apprentice and Grand Masters always the same flight)Should I be setting the starts for the fleets? Has anyone a sample set of results? Am I trying to do the impossible?
I have a hunch that you can do this with a combination of fleets,
flights & scoring.
I think (but not proved) that you could do flight assignment for those
that are masters.
You will need to set up appropriate starts using combination of fleets &
flights.
Then you could score each fleet seperatly with different scoring
systems.
So use some field to separate Master/Grand Master/Apprentice & use as
fleets.
Use flights within Master.
Wow this is starting to get complicated.
If you have a sample file and you want me to take a look send me a copy
of it.

I think it can be done in one file but - re the
flights for the masters - are they changing per bost per day or staying
in the same flights?

The 2 Masters flights ( Yellow/Red ) change each day in an Appendix LE Addendum C configuration and then turn into Gold & Silver Finals. ( too many for 1 start line ) The Apprentice and Grand Masters ( Green & Blue ) fit onto a start line and have their own starts. Hence 4 starts on this course. The big driver is to be able to use the Sail Number Wizard to score all finishers. I find the flighting tool works well but in the end when you “Score the Series” you have to make a choice between one group or separate groups and whether these are the fleets ( Master, Apprentice, G-Master ) or flights.

I agree with what john said.
3 fleets. Masters/App/GM
Setup a scoring system for each.
In the Masters scoring system enable split starts and Assign flights.
Set up the starts - one start for the App (fleet=App), one start for
the GM (fleet=GM) and two starts for the Masters (flight=x and
flight=y).
In that way everybody can finish at the same line and Sailwave will
know (assuming unique Sailnos) what place to give them because it knows
who is in which start and asign 1,2,3…n appropriately. Don’t be
tempted to leave the flet starts based on ‘everybody’ while that will
work from a scopring POV when using the sailno wiz it’ll be too
ambiguous.
Then score by Fleet.
For the MAsters scoring system enable Q/F stuff - you will get away
with not scoring the individual finals flights separately because you
can leave the codes for DNF as largest start + 1 - because the size of
Q and F starts is the same.
Easier in separate files but you loose the ability to finish everybody

Hi: Can I have a bit more info on setting this up please. I tried 3 Fleets with Masters split into two Flights, i.e. four groups of boats. I did all the split start stuff in UI but how do you set up Edit Race, Edit Start, Select Competitors? One can only specify three groups and we need to specify Fleet=APP, Fleet=GM, Flight=Red, Flight=White. Otherwise how does Sailwave know how to split up the groups to score them separately?
If one sets up as 3 Fleets Sailwave scores as either Flights or Fleets. If one scores by Fleet the two Flights are scored together, not separately as one needs. If one scores by Flight the Fleets don't get scored.
What am I missing here?
Thanks, Donald
Do you have a sample file you are playing with. If so send it to me and
I can try to set it up.
You choose to score by Fleet when you do the scoring and at that point
you can choose the scoring system.
The scoring system for main will be set to have multiple 1sts & use App
LE Addendum C.
The scoring system used for GM/App will be simpler.
You need 3 Fleets
Fleet - App,GM, Main
Then for Main you use Flights defined by the scoring system.
Then Something like
Start 1 Fleet=App
Start 2 Fleet=Main & Flight = Red
Start 3 Fleet=Main & Flight = White
Start 4 Fleet=GM

Looks Good - Donald does that help? - John’s
advice is spot on and Ian’s file looks good too.
However I can see problem with finals depending on SIs (it’s all to do
with DNF) - but I’m prepared to sort it as we go if you guys want to
continue - and Art…?. Probably also issues in getting individual
race data out in an order thats useful…

I see I think. I didn’t see that one could keep adding to Select
Competitors, I thought there were three chances. BY being able to add
as many fleets flights as you want then it works. Have to grocery shop,
reality has arrived!
