flights and dnf etc

Hi Mark,

The number of competitors is equal to the maximum number of
competitors that
could sail in any one race. In the above example 22 when Green, Sails red.

Most races will not be concerned about number of starters or number of
finishers as they are not used in any scoring codes. But for completeness.

The number of starters is equal to the number of competitors that come to
the line for a specific race, and could be different between the
two flight
combinations for the same race #.

The number of finishers is equal to the number of competitors
that complete
the race for a specific race, and could be different between the
two flight
combinations for the same race #.

That corresponds to what I've been thinking. As it stands the code mthods
refer to "boats that came to the start area", "starters" and "finishers". I
need to add "included in the start" and then the question is what do these
mean when scoring *across* starts as in a flight context... options
include:-

  - pick 4 numbers a,b,c,d
  - accumulate across the starts (sailwave defaults to this now)
  - as above but use the max in any one race

Regards,
Colin

Not sure if I fully understand Mark's points but identifying the number of boats which came to the
start area can prove to be rather difficult.
Flight racing is designed for BIG fleets & to attempt to count the boats in the start area (as I
know from experience) is virtually impossible.

The interchange last night was 'interesting' for those of us who had nothing better to do than wait
for the next response - when is the Instant Sailwave system being launched Colin

Hi Ralph,

When I first did the scoring codes I found 'boats that came to start area',
'starters' and 'finishers' slippery in terms of the different user views,
hence the properties tab for each code. It's up to the user to decide
whether or not a code contributes to any one of these values. The buttons
to set up for short/long series set everything up according to my
interpretation of App A. I have no idea if these properties are in fact
twiddled with at all...

No, not actually...

First: When saying "Need more fields", I ment when doing EditRace - Edit start - Select competitors (to competitors in this start), I needed more selectionfields (The OR option). Sorry for being dizzy...

So then the Europe class:
(with respect to the above) I tried to select all 6 Europe classes, bacause I also had the Lasers in the same file last week.... Changed it to one file for Lasers and one for Europe.

When scoring europe class, I do not need to score "by class". They shall be scored accordingly to their finishing position among ALL europe dinghy class finishers! But after that I have to arrange them accordingly to their class (male/female- recruits, juniors and seniors) and rank them by class.... So, if the best female recruit finishes as #10, she will have 10 points, but shall be ranked as #1 female recruit ( and #10 overall). You might think of it as a ENORMOUS bonus system, because the next female recruit (i.e #2 female recruit) can be scored 30 in that race (and overall).....

Anyway,
Keep on the GOOD work!

Martin

Can you not do this:-

Use the Fleet field for Male/Female. (I need more fields I know...)
Use the Class field for Ladies/Mens/Recruits/Juniors/Seniors

Score by Fleet.
Score by Class.

.....

Oh, I see, also need results for Female Juniors etc, is that right...?

Let me test it tonight or tomorrow!

(Today is our national day, and it's a big celebration in Norway. Must stick to the family too....)

Hi Martin,

not impossibole, just not available; stuff like that is one the list
somewhere.

Use the Edit+SetCompetitotField to set a competitor field value for more
than one competitor.

I have tried entering Race Specific Handicaps. One oddity I noticed was that
when published, the Ratings column in each race does not show any value.

Another, slightly annoying bit was that even though I changed the view to
"Race Specific Ratings" as suggested, as soon as I updated a rating, the
view changed back to the default view. (but this is not serious and I can
live with that for now)

Regards
Terry

Hi Terry,

There is no automation for this yet but you can enter a race specific
handicap value for a competitor via the edit+result menu.
You can see an
overviorwe of these values from the picking the View menu
option to see race
specific rating values. Publishing a series summary honours the view.
Automation will arrive sometime this year.

Hi Terry, Thanks I'll get that sorted out for the next release (probably on
Friday).

Hi Mike,

Not sure if we are talking about the same thing, but an import
facility for race specific handicaps would be useful, something like
the import race results.

Mike

Good idea, I'll tweak the race import ot handle it.

Hope all is well.

Colin J

Hi Terry,

I have tried entering Race Specific Handicaps. One oddity I
noticed was that
when published, the Ratings column in each race does not show any value.

I can't replicate this. I used the open.clw example installed with Sailwave
and changed my rating to 130 for race 1 and 2, when published the rating
column reflects that for the R1 and R2 tables. See this link:-

http://results.sailwave.com/racespecific.htm

Can you send me a series in which it doesn't work.

Another, slightly annoying bit was that even though I changed the view to
"Race Specific Ratings" as suggested, as soon as I updated a rating, the
view changed back to the default view. (but this is not serious and I can
live with that for now)

Fixed.

Regards,
Colin J
