Forms

Colin,

How do I make the lines darker on forms (sign on/off etc)?

There is a way in Windows but I do not know how to use this,

Cheers,
Geoff

Back in the early days i would save the html file then open either MS
Frontpage or Netscape Composer and you could do pretty much anything
you liked with the file.

Hope helps.... simon

Hi Geoff.

This reply is assuming you have installed v37. You can still operate in the way Simon suggested but it means you have to do it every time you publish something. A better solution now is to edit the style sheet yourself; you only need to do it once.

Copy the default style ‘sailwave\styles\sailwave default.htm’ and place it in the ‘sailwave\my styles’ folder. Sailwave gives the ‘my styles’ folder priority when there are filename clashes between the ‘styles’ and ‘my styles’ folders, so you can leave it with the name ‘sailwave default.htm’. Or you can rename it to something else which means the sailwave default and your new style will be available.

Next edit the file you’ve copied with a test editor like Notepad and change the border colour; the borders are probably set to something like #d7d7d7 - i.e. a light grey. To make them darker use something like #808080 or to make them black use #000000. You’ll need to do this for any line that has a border definition in it. i.e. wherever you see this: ‘border: 1pt solid #d7d7d7;’ - change it to something like this: ‘border: 1pt solid #808080;’.

The user now has complete control over how the results etc look; try some of the other styles that come with Sailwave to see what I mean.

I’m hoping users will experiment and produce new templates and new styles - and upload them here for others to use. I’d also like to start building a template/style library on the web site. I also hope users will help each other with CSS syntax/semantic issues etc.

Colin

I've followed your instructions on the style sheet and uploaded the

While trying version 37, I noticed that if I publish race results to a file, the file is placed in the same directory as sailwave.exe. When the other forms are published to a file, they go to the root directory by default. I consider both of these actions to be Bad Things (and the latter situation to be quite unexpected!)

I suggest that these files should be placed in a directory below the one holding sailwave.exe - perhaps called "output".

Alternatively (or also) there should be a program or series configuration item to select the output location (which might also be the location of the burgee image files), and/or if the user specifies a directory when publishing to a file, that directory should be used for all published output for that series (until changed).

Hi Peter,

Not sure I understand that. When you publish to a file you specify the
location using an absolute path name.

Yes, but the default file name/path for the race results is just "ser1.htm", which, if the user doesn't change it, puts the file in the same directory as sailwave.exe, and I don't like putting user-created files in with the program - too easy to do Bad Things when deleting unwanted files.

For the other forms (sign-in sheets, etc.) the default file name is "\signin.htm" - the leading slash makes those files go in the root directory - again not a good place for user-created files.

If the user does select a directory, the program doesn't remember that directory for future outputs, so the user has to make a new selection _each_ time he wants to create the files - it would be much more convenient if we could specify the destination in one place for the series, or if the program would remmeber the last-selected directory.

Hi Peter,

Ah I see. Sailwave should be using the current windows directory in this
case, not anything hardwired. I'll tweak it. Note that you can hit the
button to the right of the file name to select a new filename. The selected
filename is remembered on a per series basis for each of the standard
published reports in Sailwave. This is because users often want results
saved to a different place to forms etc.

Thanks for the feedback.

Colin

38b1 uploaded again (midday Sunday GMT) with some improvements in this area.
NB: you need to save a file once so that Sailwave can catch on to what's
happening. It'll use the path of the folder thereafter as a default in 'new
file' situations. Thanks for the comments Peter.
