Fw: Rating Library

Hi,

I’ve made a few alterations to PY numbers in the rating library. When I import competitors from a previously created template the old rating library appears to be imported as well. For example, if the PY for the Mirror is changed to 1432 in the rating laibrary, when a Mirror competitor is imported from the template then it will come in with the previous PY of 1386. If you then attempt to correct this the rating library provides the old PY and not the recently updated one. Are there two rating libraries and if so how do I alter them both?

By the way is there any one who can help with getting the latest ratings from the RYA in a suitable txt file?

Competitor ratings are copied from the library into the competitor record or set by hand - they do not (currently) point at the library values. This is so that old series can be rescored safely with their original rating values rather then newer ones. This accounts for what you’re seeing. I plan to do a tweak very soon such that a competitors rating is set to “use the library value for the competitors class” - with suitable warnings that whenever you score the series, it’s scored with the values in the lib thus in N years time a rescore of the series may yield different results. An advantage then is that you can change rating systems and see what effect it has on the results; esp. useful for cats and ISAF/Texel. CJ.

This area is allways tricky. I have a feeling that i would prefer some check when you calculate the results to see if the ratings used in the

series are different from those in the ratings library and then ask if you want to update from the new library.

Also whilst were on this subject in the option for allowing a different rating for an individual race could you consider altering it to be a class

rather than just a rating. This is used since we score by helm rather than boat and therefore people occasionally change classes. It looks a bit

odd in the race results when it says someone is sailing a Dart 18 but with the handicap of a laser!

This isnt important but would improve things a bit and would also be a help in this situation since the new rating could change with a new rating library corectly.

Thanks

John

I have been thinking the same today while at work… There’s no need for the ‘point the value at the lib’ option - just update from the lib either by hand or automagically when scoring. This also facilitates something the cat folk want to do which is swap rat sys and see what happens.

I think I’d like to show a window after scoring to show some warnings and info - e.g. whether or not 8.n was used, details of tie breaks, warning about wildly out of range elapsed times and rating values etc… Optionally on/off via the toolbar.

Also whilst were on this subject in the option for allowing a different rating for an individual race could you consider altering it to be a class

OK
