Fw: [sailwave] High Point Scoring

Would anyone know if the “scored points” in the codes tab picks up the high point score by formula?

All

i have been working on the following

Points

  1. For each boat completing the course 1 pt

  2. For each boat beaten 1 point

  3. Bonus 4 for 1st, 2 for 2nd, 1 for 3rd

I have the old scoring file from low point and have changed it to high point.

I have high point with formula 2*f-p which seems to deal with 1 and 2. Testing gives the correct score.

i set up scoring codes for 1 2 and 3 with the bonus points

When scoring this does not come up in scored points with the correct score.

Any ideas.

I'm pretty sure you can't easily get the scores you want through the codes tab. Scored points need to be calculated through a formula within the scoring system. I don't think the formula engine allows for conditional computations (e.g. IF(p=1, s=n-p+5) Else . . .)

After a couple of seasons using the CHIPS high point scoring system and having numerous complaints from boats trying to keep track of their score near the end of a competition, we've gone to a simpler high point formula: s(score) = n-p+1. This gives the same results you want for your 1 and 2 but doesn't provide any bonus points.

The simpler formula, while taking advantage of the bonus for doing well in larger fleets, is fairly understandable and easily calculated on the water for boats wanting to know who they need to beat and what position they need to attain to win or hold position.
