Fw: [sailwave] Questions about ranks, race weightings and aliasses ...

Point 3 solved, just don’t tick anything except in UI, and weighting is applied but mutiplying…

Forgotten to attach the file, now corrected.

As I de-activated tie break, everyone is now ranked as 1st…

Subject: [sailwave] Fw: Questions about ranks, race weightings and aliasses …

I scored a series for the European ranking for the Micro Class 2007 (see reference on http://www.microclass.org/results/EM07.html) to decide whether we’ll use Sailwave for this ranking in the future.

My .blw file (not fully entered) is attached.

The scoring is Austrian high point as defined in the Class regulations http://www.microclass.org/regulations/regulationC.html

First problem encountered, when I’m scoring the series and sorting results on Nett, they appear in reverse order, as for a low point system.

Second point, the field “Rank” shows 1st for everyone, except ties for last place with 101 points

Third point, I ticked the box “Race Weightings” in User Interface as the Regulation gives a multiplying coefficient for the World Championship (appears as race “GER”, being entered). Sadly, the rule is that weighting is dividing for High point… In all rankings using High point I’ve met, weightings were multiplying. So provisionally I tried to used 0.666666667, but this is rounded to 0.67 and accuracy is affected (points for last are 101*1.5 = 151.5 rounded to 152, but 101/0.67 = 150.74 rounded to 151)

Fourth point, I’m close to the next problem. One boat LAT-222 changed the configuration during the year, and sailed the LAT race in division “Proto”, and GER, RUS and BEL in division “Racers”. So points may be cumulated for the overall ranking, but only Race LAT for Proto ranking, and the last three for Racers ranking. Is this case solved with aliasses ?

A second case is mine, as I chartered a boat (Cruiser) in Moscow for the RUS-Race but used mine (Proto) for BEL, two easier cases are Andrey Maslov, with RUS-25 in LAT and GER, RUS-55 in BEL and Nikolay Krasilnikov, who changed the boat during the season. Can I find a solution with aliasses or work out these special cases on a copy of the file, with manual changes for the two boats with problems ?

And now for the worse question. Are only qualified boats having sailed in another country… So as I used the same nationality letters to rename the races, competitors are ranked only if they have at least one race with race name different from their nationality letters

Phil,

Just started looking at your questions.

Points 1 & 2 I have solved by taking the check mark out against "Sort results by field after scoring " in the Score Series window. Sailwave automatically sorts by the Nett field as part of the scoring process and allocates Ranking positions accordingly

FYI - you can switch the sort order on a column by clicking in the column header a second time; each time you click in the column header you switch the sort order from ASCENDING to DESCENDING to ASCENDING to DESCENDING, i.e. you toggle between the sort orders.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Huw

Thanks

I’m now mainly worried by aliasses. A provisional solution is to abandon aliasses and set 2nd boat in the notes.

Then duplicate entries (or “triplicate”) and exclude these copies for the overall rankings

Edit competitors and results for these excluded entries. Ranks and codes are hidden for the excluded entries but not removed.

Make a copy, exclude the original entries and un-exclude the copies. Once un-excluded, these records display the original ranks and codes.

Rank in divisions.

Not a deep worry, but rounding may be different from my Excel file, see attached copy (now totally entered, with copy file for divisions).

I even added a 7th race, cancelled but points for DNF given to the two competitors having showed up and ranked in the local Crusing class on handicap, gives 101 points and may validate their entry… (was not necessary this year, but brings also 101 points and some places fwd).
