I just started using SailWave this last year for our club scoring
(previous scoring done by hand! very time consuming!).
I'm still learning the ropes with Sailwave and was wondering how
exactly I can save particular racers rather than a race or a series.
Still learning, so bear with me if these questions seem a little
simple.
Here's the case I need help with.
We've got a 50 boat PN fleet (dinghies) organized into two fleets (PN
93 is the breakpoint for the two fleets). We hold 16 race days per
year, with about four races per day. Naturally, only one or two
folks make all the race days and races.
The day's racing is recorded as a series for that day, with those
results published immediately. We don't trophy the individual days.
Those same results are also repeated in an additional series datum
sheet for the end-of-year tabulation (our association has adopted a
best 10 of x for the EOY trophy rather than a long-series regatta
scoring).
The trouble is I'm having to duplicate entries. Is there a method
that would allow me to cut and paste or drag a competitor from one
series datum sheet into another?
I do a similar thing. We have a Spring, Summer, and Fall series. The
races in these series are also used for scoring each Fleet over the
entire year, and also for a third series, an Overall Handicap
Championship.
My normal modus operandi is to take the overall results sheet, rename
it to something else (e.g. Nov15), delete all the races (leaving the
competitors so I can use the sailnumber wizard) and enter the day's
race results. Once that is done, I merge that day's series into each
of the other three series files (File:Merge in another Sailwave
series). I have to re-enter the details of the race itself in each
series, since it doesn't import, but at least the competitors and
their results do.

Different folks will create different procedures but this works for me.
We score the 2 to 5 races we complete in a weekend as a stand alone short
regatta using the wind adjusted USPN and no discards. This gives us
positions for each race. The weekend winner wins bragging rights for the
month. Guest boats are welcome.
Each month I create the new series by saving the previous month under a new
name. I then delete the old races and add new ones. This provides 90% of
the registration data so I only have to register guest boats and new club
boats.
When the weekend is over we transpose only our member positions to the long
season series manually using the SN Wizard. We just drop guest boats from
the list. Points go with the skipper. It's really easy to do this from a
printout of the weekend results. The long season series has a different
discard profile, qualification profile, scoring system, OOD points, etc. so
I treat it as a different animal completely. We only have to set this up
once for the season so it's not a lot of overhead.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I find that merge transfers times not
individual race positions so if you ever unscore the season series you loose
corrected positions. Merge also does not transfer all the race information
or boat information so you have to edit the races and registration anyway.
Guests confuse the picture. Since the season is not based on USPN but
weekend outcomes I drop rating data.
