Guidance on Progessive Handicap setup for mixed fleet

New to SailWave (evaluating). Can anyone point me towards guidance on setting up Progressive Handicaps properly for mixed fleets? We have mixed divisions with boats operating on AS Yardstick but want to apply a performance based progressive adjustment over the top that runs and is updated throughout the season.

Help appreciated.

Hi Ben,

Welcome to the Sailwave User Group forum.

If you want to dual score standard AS yardstick and a progressive adjustment based on an initial AS Yardstick, the functionality in Sailwave you will use is ‘Aliases’

Create your fleets / mixed divisions using standard AS Yardstick’s and set-up scoring system, i.e. default scoring, for AS Yardstick.

Then create aliases and rename the fleets / mixed divisions as appropriate then set-up alternative scoring system for each fleet / mixed division to a progressive adjustment system. There are 3 progressive adjustment systems available:

  • RYA NHC both as an internal calculation or an external calculation using an Excel spreadsheet which is included as part of the standard Sailwave install
  • Irish Sailing ECHO both as an internal calculation or an external Excel spreadsheet included as part of standard Sailwave install
  • World Sailing Empirical Handicap Rating system which is an external Excel spreadsheet available on request

A fourth alternative is to create your own progressive adjustment Excel spreadsheet.

In the Sailwave User Guide there is a section on creating ‘Aliases’.

Note - using ‘Aliases’ means you only have to enter finish sheet data once as the data entered for each initial competitor is copied to each alias of the competitor.

When publish results from Sailwave with a progressive adjustment system, you can publish in the series results the rating used in each race; this is achieved using a Sailwave ‘Effect’.

I hope that is enough information to get you started.

Kind regards,
Huw
