Handicap Explanation Required

Maybe it is the difference between the Northern Hemisphere & the
southern hemisphere, but my understanding of handicap systems appears
to be different.

We use a handicap to effectively share the prizemnoey around more
members. So at the end of the season, we have a Club Champion (plus
second & third) who represent the fastest boats in the specific class.
We then award prizes to the handicaps champion, second & third.

The methods of determining the handicap in our current system is
automatic, and I am trying to achieve the same automation in the
Sailwave system. When a boat joins the fleet he/she is allocated a
handicap of 100% - this represents the fastest boat in the fleet.
Each race he competes in, his elapsed time is calculated as a
percentage of the fastest boat's elapsed time. This is eventually
averaged over five races. So, from this you can see every boats
handicap is always moving. A number of years back, we used a fixed
system i.e. you win the handicap and your handicap reduced by three
minutes. Your fixed handicap would then be deducted from your elapsed
time. There were issues with this as it did not take into account the
length of the race amongst other things

So, does Sailwave handle some form of handicap (in my sense of the
word), and is it automatic? And if so, how do I work it?

thanks

Hi,

This is also of use to me. I am scoring a state level event over the
summer, with the main prize run on VYC, and other prizes calculated
on a "running" handicap.

Can sailwave do the calculations for this rolling handicap?

Mitch
