I think you need to tick ‘Settings’, ‘User Interface’, ‘Race Weightings’ to get the Auto Set Rating thingy to work.
However, and this is just a guess as I’ve never used it (prefer the golf handicap approach - set for the season, tweak if obviously wrong), I suspect that the % just weights the rating adjustment. That is, at 100%, the BCR is such that in the race in question, all competitors would have tied for first place (it’s calculated to the performance of the original winner) whereas with, say, 50% only half of the rating correction is applied.
Suggest you set up a short test series and report back

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately it did not make any difference to results in my test series.
I also tried having “Auto set Competitor Ratings” box ticked and unticked in Scoring System window. No changes either.
Has anyone got the “Back calculated index %” dial to work?
I am exploring using Sailwave for our sailing club in Australia. I have been trying to get a personal handicap system set up. Just one question.
In the “Scoring System” screen, down the bottom is the "Back calculated index % dial. I cannot get it to work. No matter what figure I enter into it the Back calculated handicap only uses the fastest boat as the standard boat. This resuls in a reduced handicap for all other competitors. I want the standard boat to be about 1/3 down fleet. The expression I am using in the Tools+ Assign Personal Handicap screen is: prevrac + (prevbcr - prevrac) / 4.
Any advice appreciated.

Ah, see what you mean. Before my previous reply I thought that fiddling with it had changed BCRs, but now on a simple test series it won’t
I got the function to work in an earlier version; not sure it was the same implementation you are using. I was using 50% because I wanted to use the middle boat. Unfortunately, while it did use A boat from the fleet, it didn't always use the middle boat in that fleet. The boat it picked was near the middle but not at the middle. Hence, I didn't think there was any way that I could figure out ahead of time which boat would be picked. That meant that I couldn't describe what I was doing in the SIs, which meant that for all practical purposes I couldn't use that function.
BUT, I did get the function to do something even if it didn't work as predicted.
As others have responded, usually when stuff doesn't work in Sailwave it is because there is some switch that needs to be flipped somewhere. If you can't get it to work after some more noodling I will dig out my old files and try and see if I can figure out how I got it working.
