Helm Photo and sponsors

Dear all,

I am Markus from the International Kiteboarding Association and we are using sailwave since years on the majority of our events. Many thanks for this fantastic piece of software !

Now here comes a question. We would like to include pictures of the helm in the overall ranking lists that we create for our world rankings. I can select a picture in the Helm settings but when I include it in the columns to publish, it publishes the path to the picture (file on my local computer) instead of the picture itself.

Is there a trick ?

Also, in Kiteboarding people use to have a lot of sponsors, and the only field long enough to fit that is “medical” (as far as I found). Is there a chance to make the sponsors field for the team unlimited in length, like the medical field ?

As you say if you publish the column then you get the path to the image. Could you explain or even better create a sample of how you would like to publish the photo - If this is accessible from PC’s other than your PC the path to the images would have to be an on some external server. What size would you want the images to be?

The length for Sponsor is currently 40 characters and Medical is currently 500. I could make Sponsor a bit bigger but it is not good practice to make it larger than required as every crew in a boat will have memory allocated to it for a sponsor even if not used which increases the memory requirements and could slow things down (not that increasing a Sponsor to say 100 characters would be a problem. What size do you need it to be? If it gets very large how are you going to display it anyway?

Hi Jon,

thank you for coming back on this so quickly.

Here is a quick view on how the overall ranking could look like (it would include additional fields, but just to give you an idea of the picture application):

I would take care about the “making it round” feature of course. The picture would need to be located on the internet or on our server, so that we can link to it and embed the picture.

Regarding sponsors, here is a snapshot of a recent event, I would think that 100 characters should be fine – most of the times with the standard 40 only the last bits were cut off, that’s why we used “medical” then.

There is a mistake in that file as we had some rescoring, but you see what I mean.
