Help pls

As per previous questions, our club is running a fairly successful Wednesday Evening series which this year is an average lap based race. We have four starts with various different fleets starting on them, some alone, some together. I have been using sailwave to score the whole race using elapsed time and number of lap entries. Some in the club are interested in how they have faired against everyone else, and with the removal of the start offsets this is possible to produce using the score series tab with the score all as one group check box ticked. However, others in the club say that this makes a mockery of their fleet race so need to see the fleets scored individually. So I set up fleets in the edit competitor dialogue box. I also managed to change the next box down to a start number which I publish next to each competitor.

Up until last week the OD's were doing a sterling job of recording times for all boats and the number of laps completed. However, we were let down and not all times were recorded for all boats. However they did manage to record the finish positions for fleets of similar boats where times werent recorded. I have tried to add positions for the boats that didnt have times recorded, however sailwave only lets me add one 1st position, not the 3 or 4 i need as it doesnt seem to be able to make a distinction between fleets when entering results.

So, my question is this:

Is it possible to add multiple of the same positions for different fleets in the same file and use score competitors in groups only from now on? I.e. have two first places, one in the solo fleet and one in the miracle fleet for example?

Is it possible to add my results file here for someone to take a look at and tell me how wrong I am doing it. I have heard of aliases but do not understand what that means and how it would work - if it is even anything like what I would need to do.

Thanks,

Chris

You could perhaps use the redress provisions.

There is a box for multiple firsts somewhere.

Ah cool, many thanks for your reply.

I just found the allow split starts multiple 1sts check box under the user interface. Is it likely to be as simple as that?

Will try it out when I get home tonight.

I have heard of aliases but do not understand what that means and how it would work - if it is even anything like what I would need to do.

I find aliases useful when the same boat has different handicaps (in the same race) e.g. to work out results on both PY and our local handicap system. Not sure if that would help you, though!

BTW, for your original problem, I’d have been sorely tempted just to make up some finishing times based on the recorded positions…

Not that I know of, but it’s really simple (make sure that you have Competitor Aliasing ticked in the User Interface menu):

  1. use ‘New Like’ to create an identical competitor
  2. edit the ‘new’ competitor as required (handicap, fleet, etc.) including the Alias tab - make the ‘new’ competitor and alias of the original one
Enter the results for the original competitor and these are acquired by the aliased ‘new’ one - just make sure that the aliased competitor has not been excluded

I could not find one.

I assume you have found the alias tag. In user interface you tick aliasing.

In the competitors tag there is a label for the alias and you select the boat here.
