I don't know if it is me, or whether there is a real bug.
Following my previous email on this subject I uninstalled Sailwave, rebuilt the csv file and started over.
I installed 2.9.7 and replaced the exe with 2.12.3, and put Huw's RYA Ratings in the Ratings folder in Programs(x86)/Sailwave.
Apart from the slight problem that the drop down menus don't drop down!! Any ideas? I'm running Windows 7.
I opened Sailwave, imported the series from a csv file, went to score the series, and found the elapsed times hadn't imported correctly, in that for instance in R1 Musto Skiff 414 had an elapsed time of 39.31 which had transferred as 0:00:39, which is pretty damn quick!! Whereas RS Vision 581 had an elapsed time of 1.01.13 which had transferred correctly. It seems that any times just entered in the csv file as minutes.seconds transfers just the minutes. If, however, I enter the times as 0.39.31, it transfers correctly.
I have attached my csv file and blw file where I have amended some of the times in R1 to the format 0.00.00
Having had a look at the CSV file in Notepad, the time separators
are not consistent, there is a mixture of . and :
If you have used a spreadsheet to create the CSV, it looks like the
spreadsheet has tried to be clever in trying to decide what might be
a time format and what is not. For example for
Laser Stratos 242 the elapsed time in Notepad is shown as
53:00:00 for R2, i.e 53 hours 0 minutes 0 seconds which
I suspect should be 53 minutes 0 seconds
RS 300 354 the elapsed time in Notepad is shown as 45.59 for
R2
I also notice that in the main the R1 times are in HH:MM:SS format
and R2 times in MM.SS format. R1 elapsed times less then 60 minutes
have been converted to HH:MM:00.
My suggestion would be to enter the times as a text string starting
with a ’ to force the spreadsheet to accept the data as a text
string and not try and be clever and decide some should be a
formatted as time. Also be consistent in using either HH.MM.SS
format or MM.SS and not mix and match.
A tip regarding location of rating files is not to put them in the
location you have as when the next full release of Sailwave as an
install package is made available, it will delete files in the
sub-folders under Sailwave folder.
I also noticed that there is a ? in the R1 column for Laser Stratos
242 which could cause problems when scoring.
Jon might be able to expand on how Sailwave tries to import time
data from a CSV file.
Hope the above helps.
Kind regards,
Huw

Many thanks Huw,
Yes the csv file was generated in Excel. It was sent on to me by the
RO in that format. I hadn’t had the problem before, but then, on
reflection, I had generated my own csv files. Didn’t occur to me to
view it in Notepad.
Any ideas why the drop downs don't work? They used to but my laptop
go Xrayed so many times on my trip to NZ and back that it kept
crashing, so Ihad to do a complete recovery.

They used to be OK for me, but since I did a necessary recovery and

avail.
Just did a completely new install on the clubs new PC windows 8 and
everything is fine. I guess there is some hidden Microsft gremlin in
my laptop.

Just checked ver 2.9.7.1 on Win 7 - menu drop downs are fine.
Further to my last I have just noticed that the Underscore on the
Menus isn’t there until I press the Alt key.
So I open Sailwave, press the Alt key then the drop downs are there.
Select an item and click, then I have to press Alt again to get the
drop downs back. Going back in the SUG mails I find several of us
had this previously including myself, but it seems it just went
away. ???

Don’t know why the menu’s aren’t there for you. I run Sailwave primarily in Windows 7 and have no problems - There are many users now running it under Windows 7. When you say the drop downs aren’t working do you mean when you click on the menu items nothing appears or do you mean the menu items are not visible. It is normal for the underscores to not be visible until you press the Alt key - that is how it should work. If you find the reason it please post back with what you did. It would also be interesting to know if it behaves differently for you in 2.12.x or 2.13.x as these are compiled with newer versions of Clarion.
Excel needs to have a “:” as the separator in time fields Sailwave can use “.” or “:” but you can’t mix them. Personally I always use a “:” as time separators as it saves hassle in the long term. Later versions of Sailwave automatically add “:”'s to time fields if you use the Sailno Wizard for entry.
There is also a Program posted on this forum SWTimeCvt that will convert a Sailwave file that uses “.” separators to “:” separators
