High Point Scoring - Survey for World Sailing

I've been asked to get some information on the usage of high point
scoring systems with the results of the survey to eventually to go to
World Sailing.

Do you use one of the many high-point scoring systems - CHIPS, Cox
Sprague, simple high point, Rinderle B, Sunset or some other? These are
typically used for season-long series.

If the answer is YES then could you please respond with

1. Country
2. Club (if you don't feel like providing this it is optional but I
think it would be very helpful)
3. System (not necessary and may not even be passed on to World Sailing
as we are only looking for the usage of ANY high-point scoring system
but I'm personally curious)

NOTE - Sometimes regattas are scored using the Low Point System and then
the standing at the end of the regatta is used in some kind of a
high-point season championship. Since individual races are scored using
the Low Point System that would NOT be a yes answer.

1. UK (Falmouth, Cornwall)
2. Sunbeam Class Association
3. Our own system

We have a special trophy awarded for the best aggregate performance over
every race (~120) in the entire season at several local clubs (at all of
which all Sunbeams are permitted to compete). Some of the races are series
races; others are one-off standalone races. Entries range from 1 to 20. A
low-point system doesn't recognise the higher performance of being 1st out
of 20 versus 1st out of 1. The high-point algorithm is Race Points =
Number of Boats Beaten + 1. No shows score zero. It's all worked out on a
monster spreadsheet. Race results are gathered from club websites.

Thanks. 1 point for finishing and 1 point for every boat beat is
generally known as the "simple high-point system."

I should add my own data.

1. US (Los Angeles)
2. California Yacht Club
3. Sunset system (which I've described here numerous times)

Art,

Dahlgren Yacht Club uses CHIPS since the PHRF of the Chesapeake system is not available in Sailwave.

  3. High (CHIPS) and Low point

A race at our club counts towards multiple awards/championships
Ie: a race on Saturday July 6 2019 would count towards:

  • The Overall series - High Point
  • The July series
    • High Point
  • The Saturday series
    • High Point
  • The July 6,7 weekend series - Low Point
  • The Laser classes series - Low Point
  • The Green fleet series - High Point
All race results are entered in one master Sailwave file which is used by a custom program using filters (date, classes, etc) to generate the individual championship Sailwave files.
