High Points Discards

We are using the Sunset custom high points scoring system for the year results that includes merging the Spring Low Points (SPLP) , Summer Low Points (SULP), and Fall Low Points (FLLP). We want discard the worst
1/3 scores for all races (e.g., 23 scheduled races where 19 were sailed implies count best 12 scores). Based on prior discussions on this group, the suggestion was to use a discard formula of1/3r (number of races scheduled in the series) or 1/3s (number
of races actually sailed in the series). However, this deletes scores for competitors that actually sailed less than the number of discards. The DNC’s were ignored. What we want is to include the DNC.s in the discard profile so that their best N scores
(12 in this case) including any necessary DNC’s are counted. How can this be accomplished? Attached is the .blw and a spreadsheet that shows what the expected total scores should be.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Tom,

I had a quick look at your BLW file (Sunset with RO=Average and 1/3 discard) and notice that the DNC’s are flagged not to be discarded. See below:

You just have to change the properties of the DNC to allow them to be discarded. See below:

I would use a discard profile of 1/3*s (number of races actually sailed in the series) which makes the results more meaningful as the races are been completed.

Cheers,

Peter

Thanks. I do not know how I overlooked that. That fixed the issues.

Have a great day.
