I have been asked to add a 5% time penalty onto somebody’s score. Could you please tell me how I go about doing this? The race started at 19.03 and their finish time without any penalties was 19.51.59.

Thank you for the question. Unfortunately it is a manual
calculation. Also interesting phrasing of words, "* add 5% time
penalty onto someone’s score* " which I interpret from the
last sentence as being 5% addition to their elapsed time.
Taking it that the penalty is an amount of time to be added to
the elapsed time the calculation I would do is:
19:51:59 [FT] - 19:03:00 [ST] = 00:48:59 =2939 seconds elapsed time
10% of elapsed time = 293.9 seconds
5% of elapsed time = 147.45 seconds[rounded down as per RYA guidelines in my
view]
new elapsed time = 2931 + 147 = 3078seconds = 00:51:18
new finish time = 19:03:00 + 00:51:18 =19:54:18
Now enter new finish and re-score series.

Surely the sailor sailed for 48m 59s (2939seconds) add 5% so adjusted time is 3086seconds which is 51m 26s therefore you record their
finishing time as 19:54:26?

There is a code for increase a time by a percentage.
Go to scoring system and look at scoring codes, SCP & ZFP add a percentage, you will have to use the relevant one, if you click on it you can change the % to 5.
the code is activated when you put the times in. ( I have changed ZFP to 5% here!)
When you score the race the code will show and the placing altered.
At least that how i think you can do, the sailwave guys might have a better way.

Hi Hugh,
The percentage penalties currently available in Sailwave apply to
scored positions not times, so unfortunately editing the scoring
code does not affect elapsed or finish times.

hello. I want to be able to have SCP for different percentages. ie I am involved in a regatta with different types of percentage penalty. It seems that although I can edit the result for one boat to an SCP of, say 40%, if another boat in the same race or series needs SCP of 20% , on the rescore it alters the first boat down to 20% penalty. Can anyone help?
Firstly Welcome to the Sailwave User Group.
To do what you have outlined you need to create a new SCP scoring code, for example SCP20, and set the percentage value to 20. Once the code is created you can then use for the competitor concerned. Suggest you also update the description string on the Properties tab as appropriate.
