How do I set up for separate groups of boats in three starts based on PHRFTOT?

For example: start 1 : Fleet M&J PHRFTOT 201-249
             start 2 : Fleet M&J PHRFTOT 165-200
             start 3 : Fleet M&J PHRFTOT 120-164

I seem to be able to auto select boats for two starts, but not three.
Thanks.

Hi,

If you care to make available your Sailwave file I will have a look

and see if I can spot anything.

Kind regards,

Huw

I'm not having much success responding. This is the third time. Everything seems to go to cyberspace.
Anyway, I think my problem is in the setup of the "competitor selection criteria". How do I put the parameters into the table?

Race 1
Start 1 Fleet = M&J AND PHRFTOT >201
Start 2 Fleet = M&J AND PHRFTOT 165-200
Start 3 Fleet = M&J AND PHRFTOT 120-164

Thanks and regards, Brian.

Hi Brian,

The criteria for the 3 starts would be to select the competitors in

different rating bands
Start 1 rating >= 201 and Rating <= 249
Start 2 rating >= 165 and rating <= 200
Start 3 rating >= 120 and rating <=164

In the competitor selection window below
<img alt="Competitor Selection Window" src="cid:part1.07070206.02060306@bcs.org.uk" height="241" width="519">

Question do all the competitors in your Sailwave file have Fleet =

M&J? If not then a different approach needs to be taken.

An alternative way would be to set say the division field to

something that represents the groupings you are wanting. This would
be done using the option Tools | Set competitor field, in three
steps.
Step 1 - select all competitors in Fleet = M&J and PHRFTOT >
120 and set Division field to MJ PHRFTOT 120-164
Step 2 - select all competitors in Fleet = M&J and PHRFTOT

164 and set Division field to MJ PHRFTOT 165- 200
Step 3 - select all competitors in Fleet = M&J and PHRFTOT
200 and set Division field to MJ PHRFTOT >200

Then in the starts window competitor selection window above you can

now use Division = MJ PHRFTOT >200 to select competitors in
Start1 and then for start 2 competitors Division = MJPHRFTOT 165-200
and finally Start 3 competitors Division = MJPHRFTOT 120-160

Hope this helps.

Huw,
Thanks very much for the information.
FYI We are racing in Lake Ontario, Canada and usually get around 60-70 boats out for our Club Regatta.
We usually have main and jib racers divided into three starts based on rating and spinnaker racers also in three starts based on rating, plus a cruising division and a C&C 33 level start. So there is a mixture of M&J and spinnaker racers at each start. Usually three to five starts and two or three races.
I have been successful for a number of years by simply dividing the fleets manually at registration, based on rating into M&J 1, M&J 2 etc.
I was simply trying to automate and speed up the process.
I have not been successful with the alternate approach you have suggested, but it is probably due to my lack of experience, so I will keep trying.
            Thanks again for your help. Brian.

Hi Brian,

Something else you could consider is getting all the competitors in

to a spreadsheet or database and setting appropriate columns to the
values you need than saving into a CSV and then importing into
Sailwave.

If you think I or other members of the SUG can be helpful just ask.

Kind regards,

Huw,
My last message to you didn't seem to appear.
Your alternate approach is working, but I will ask again if I need help.
