How do I update to 2018 PY numbers

Hi, ive just started doing results for my club, first race was Wednesday. The PY numbers are coming up as 2017 ones and I cant manually change? I have downloaded Excel with 2018 numbers but need to update sailwave to use these. any ideas please?

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

Sailwave needs the ratings in a CSV file not an XLS/XLSX file and

the content needs to be in a specific format. All the hard work
has already been done for you.

Download the 2018 PN's in Sailwave compatible format from the

Sailwave web site and then copy to the Ratings folder. Then delete
the 2017 version of the file.

Note - Sailwave picks up all .CSV files in the rating folder,

this is why you will want to delete the 2017 version.

Kind regards,

Huw

Hi. I have a slight problem here too. I’ve downloaded the latest RYAPN file, put it in a folder I created called ratings file and put the file address in to the ratings box in Global options, but the py numbers aren’t updating.
Is there a specific folder in Sailwave that I should be using and if so where do I find it.

Regards

John

Hi Mike, There should already be a folder created with the ratings in it.

This is what the global options - Folders would normally look like this:-

It doesn’t have to be this folder but if you do want to put them in a special folder I would suggest a subdirectory of the normal ratings folder as shown above

You can click the View folder contents button to make sure the files are in the folder you think they are.

You can also check the Menu - Help - Logbook and you should see the folder it is using for ratings and how many ratings it has loaded

Hope that helps

Hi I’m still struggling here. I have uploaded the PY file as suggested. Here is a screenshot of the PY location and the PY file showing the latest version.

I normally start a new series by taking the last series and deleting races which is what I’ve done here but the PY’s are not updated even when I close and reopen or do re-score.

If however I start a new series from scratch, then the revised PY’s are shown when I create new competitors. If however I try to import competitors from an existing file, the PY’s are not updated nor if I try to create a new series using an existing series as a proforma.

Any advice would be appreciated.

John,

Below is an email I sent to the member who now does our results. For “attached” use the file already provided.

Mark.

Jon,

Perhaps this should be in the Sailwave website FAQs.

Mark.

Instructions::

Attached is an updated 2018 Rating file I have created from the new list. The Vareo has gone up 5!!! Enough of my moaning… To get the series files updated to 2018 numbers the following should be done:

  1. Back up the current files series files and the ratings file.

  2. Save the attached ratings file in the Ratings folder in place of the old one.

  3. Open the first Handicap race series for Spring 2018 and select Tools -> Unscore Series

  4. Select Setup -> Scoring System and check the box: “Auto set competitor ratings” then and click OK.

  1. Then click Rescore. The PY numbers should now be change to the new numbers.

  2. Go back into Setup -> Scoring System and clear the box: “Auto set competitor ratings” then and click OK.

  3. Save the series.

  4. Repeat for the other Handicap races – No need to do for the Pursuit.

Hi John,
If you have used a PY rating in a series it will not update that rating normally as this would cause a problem if you rescored a series due to some change and then it changed all the PY ratings. So Sailwave will use whatever you have used for that class previously. This also allows you to over-ride the rating in the rating file with local ratings if you wish.

However you can ask Sailwave to use the new ratings if you wish - which is I think what you want to do this time.

You need to tick the box shown.

So tick this box and score the series.

I will leave it up to you to decide whether you wish to untick the box again - so that they don’t change if you change the ratings file.

Jon
