I am unable to make the “This is a code when A6b applies (other boats scores are changed)” work in the manner I was expecting. In Race 1 Cal20 72 is given redress, and reinstated into 2nd position, and all other boats are to be moved down.
The redress scoring code was setup to set points by hand and “This is a code when A6b applies (other boats scores are changed)” was not checked. I was expecting boats finishing 2nd, 3rd, etc to move down by one place. However, although Cal20 72 is scored correctly the other boats scores did not change, see attached results.
Am I using the correct method to score the race given the protest committee’s findings?
I can get around it by just scoring him in 2nd place but then there is no indication that the competitor received Redress.

Mark,
Thanks for checking this and confirming Sailwave’s apparent omission - I’m still awaiting confirmation of the actual instruction from the Jury with respect to the specific calculation.
Cheers,
andy

Colin,
There does appear to be a problem creating a redress scoring code inserts a boat into a specific place in a race and moves the other competitors down. Checking the box “This is a code where rule A6b applies” doesn’t appear to make a difference in circumstances when it appears it should.
Andy,
The Jury provided unclear scoring instructions and I would ask for clarification, but given what you have I would interpret the Jury’s scoring instructions as follows.
“That 13911 should receive an average of his scores”.
Calculate the average of 13911 scores for all completed races. This means that the average will change as additional races are completed in the series.
After six races 13911’s average was 38.40, after 7 races 36.17, after 8 races 35.86, after nine races 34.25.
“and that the part of the fleet that finished with a greater score be re-scored.”
This is the part I struggle with… It seems to imply that after Race 6 boats placing 39th or lower in Race 6 will be rescored, after Race 7 we will also need to rescore the 38th and 37th place boats, after Race 8 the 36th place boat; and after Race 9 the 35th place boat. How they are to be rescored is unclear.
I would ask the Jury to clarify the scoring instructions.

The Jury instructions are somewhat confusing.
Firstly it states “That 13911 should receive an average of his scores”. The average of 13911 scores for all races is 34.3. I don’t understand why you are trying to assign a fixed number of points to 13011, the code you are using assigns 37 points as the race score.
It then states that *"*and that the part of the fleet that finished with a greater score be re-scored." What does this mean, It is not clear how the remaining competitors are to be rescored? Are points to be added to the other competitors?

Yes that’s correct.
That 13911 should recieve an average of his scores and that the part of the fleet that finished with a greater score be re-scored. So theoretically if rule A6.2 is unchecked in Sailwave it should re-score, bumping everyone up a point, but it doesn’t seem to change anything.

I assume that the boat receiving redress is Sail No 13911 Dave Burrows from Winsford Flash SC in Race 6.
What were the scoring instructions provided by the Jury under rule 64.2?
Rule 64.2 When the protest committee decides that a boat is entitled to redress under rule 62, it shall make as fair an arrangement as possible for all boats affected, whether or not they asked for redress. This may be to adjust the scoring (see rule A10 for some examples) or finishing times of boats, to abandon the race, to let the results stand or to make some other arrangement. When in doubt about the facts or probable results of any arrangement for the race or series, especially before abandoning the race, the protest committee shall take evidence from appropriate sources.

If you send us your scoring file “.blw”, I am sure we can figure it out for you… I have used it in the past successfully.

You have total flexibility in sailwave.
Look at Scoring systems, then Scoring codes, and changes cha be done in edit.
You will see a column A6 on or off which controls this aspect of the program.

As per A6.2, “scores of other boats shall not be changed”
Presumably Sailwave has been set up not to allow this to be overridden (even
though the properties do seem to suggest that it could be done).

“This is a code where rule A6b applies (other boat scores are not
changed).”
This Scoring code Property option appears not to be working. I’m trying
to turn it off, so that other boat scores are changed.
(I’m assuming it should actually read “This is a code where rule A6.2
applies”.)
Regardless of whether I turn this on or off, using Scoring code RDG,
RDGa or RDGb, other boats scores appear to be always ‘not changed’.
I’ve attached the BLW file to demonstrate this w.r.t. Sail No 13911 Race
6 (Note sail No 13933 finished 29 but was disqualified hence all
subsequent places are scored one higher).
Am I setting something incorrectly or is there a bug in the program?
Cheers,
Andy
