How exactly do I set up flights?

I've read all of the posts I can find on flights, and Addendum C of
ISAF Appendix LE, but I'm still confused :frowning:

According to Addendum C, boats are reassigned to fleets (=flights?)
after each day of racing.

However, as I understand the example (the topper example) and Colin's
description of flights in response to a question here, boats remain
assigned to the same flight during qualifying races, and each flight
race against every other flight.

We are intending to use 'Flights' for the GP14 Nationals in August,
using the 'reassign to flight/fleet every day' method as per Addendum
C.

Could someone enlighten me as to:

a) which of the two (or both) is the flight system?
b) how to implement the addendum c version in SW?

Thanks in advance,
Confused of Poole (Ian)

Hi Ian

Both are variations of Flights systems
The Topper example is boats stay in the same group/fleet for the whole regatta and rotate who they
sail against in each start. They use this for both weekend events & and week-long Nationals with
great success (so I am told)

As far as I am aware, Colin has yet to deal with Addendum C version of flights i.e Qualification &
Finals with re-allocation of flights within user defined criteria.
Also within Q & F, there can be variations to series scoring where all races (Qual and Finals) count
for the series or the Finals is a totally separate series with some recognition of Qualification
performance eg carry forward position in Qual as a non-discardable 'race 1' Finals result.

If you look at all the recent postings/thread from Jan [jv@callista.se]- Qualification and finals,
he has a similar problem with some suggestions how to deal with it, but not sure if he has achieved
an acceptable solution.

If you &/or Jan get SW to work for Qualifications & Finals, I am sure Colin & the rest of us will
value your feedback

Regards
Ralph

Thanks Ralph,

Now I know where I stand. I will have to do some experiments. The
alternative is to use spreadsheets to handle the qualifying races, and
import the results into sw for the finals. I hope to avoid having to
do that.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for letting me know. Since our nationals start on Aug 6th, that
might be cutting it a bit fine :), so I think I'll prepare some
spreadsheets for the qualifying and then feed into sw for the finals.

If there is anything I can do to assist let me know.

Hi Ian

Notice that the GPs start this weekend & I think Colin is now on holiday.

Not sure how far you have got with SW & flights & which version you are using

For what it is worth (probably not much) if you need a helping hand from afar with SW & flights I
will be happy to try & help. Obviously not to the level of Colin but 2 heads sometimes are better
than none
