Can anyone please help explain this 'consitency handicap' system to
me? Or tell me if Sailwave can do this?
I believe the idea is to divide a large fleet into groups, so that
even though the boats sail in the same races, at the end of the
series, prizes can be awared throught the fleet.

"Handicap System
The system we used in previous years was an excel system developed by
a person in junior racing.
For each of the invitation race and first three races, - calculate
the ratio of the boats elapsed time with the fastest boat.
These four ratios are averaged for each boat and then used as the
basis for handicap for race 1.
(You may however need to adjust - for example when a boat was
obviously late for the start and therefore had a time much longer
elapsed time than should be expected)
Once you get results of race 1 the winners handicap is factored by
4%, second place by 3%, third place by 2%, and the new handicaps are
then used for race 2.
This procedure was then used for all following races. You dont give
out any handicap results until presentation night, and this allows
the handicapper some leeway to overide any "irregularities"
It is quite easy if you are good with excel but can be time consuming
an error prone if you are not- in one year, a person further
developed the spreadsheet with a lot of macros which did all the
above steps, but you needed a computer degree to run it."
Can anyone suggest how this can be done? In simple terms I hope!
