Hi
We are a small Sailing club in Sweden and we are Sinclair years having an old system.
We practice hunting start. Can sailwave manage that?

Hi

The slowest boats starts first and the fastest later. The handicap is saying which time you will start.

I’m not sure Hunting start is the correct word, I took it from Google translate.

We use to be 10 boats every Tuesday evening.

Today we use an very old data system, only supporting older Windows.

Have a nice day,

In Canada we call that a Pursuit race. At our club we have a spreadsheet with minutes per mile for all boats. then we start them grouped at 1 or 2 minute intervals depending on the race length.
After that Sailwave takes over as a non-handicapped race; be glad to send you copy

I have heard Americans use either "inverted start race" or "pursuit
race." Never, "rabbit."

The term "rabbit start" is when one boat sails upwind on a tack and all
boats must pass behind that boat on the opposite tack. The first boat is
referred to as the "rabbit" (you probably want a slower or
middle-of-the-fleet boat to be the rabbit). The idea is that no race
committee is necessary for the start and all boats are at approximately
the same distance upwind as the stern of the rabbit when they pass
behind the rabbit's transom. So, while the "rabbit" might have a small
advantage (in terms of upwind distance) the rest of the fleet starts
approximately equal. Of course, the "rabbit" has the potential
disadvantage of being stuck on one tack until all boats have passed
astern of her.

Quite right, but usually the rabbit has only to stay on her tack for few minutes. It is amazing how well it works even for keel boats

Hi Anders,

Yes, you can use Sailwave for pursuit races.

There are several ways of running pursuit races.

In its simplest form the results are the positions they cross the finishing line.

The difficult part is working out the start times. But many clubs also like to record the finishing times so that competitors can see by how much they won or lost, and organisers may use to adjust the ratings for future races. Sailwave can do this for you.

In addition to all the features built into Sailwave there is also this extra addon which works with Sailwave specially for calculating and setting starts for pursuit races. You can watch a video about it here http://www.screencast.com/t/y9I1STtFcxG

Art,

This is normally termed Gate Start, with the rabbit being the boat chosen to set off on port to open the gate.
