I am trying to get Sailwave working for our club. We use the US Sailing Portsmouth numbers with wind indexed ratings. We only have one start. I am having some significant problems getting it setup. Here is a list of the steps I am taking.
Open Sailwave and close any open race series.
click File>new Series and set initial races and competitors and click OK.
click Setup>User Interface and leave everything unchecked except Wind Indexed ratings, click OK
click Setup>Scoring System, select USSA Portsmouth and Use wind indexed ratings values. Verify that the rating values match the Beaufort scale numbers (0-1,2-3,4,5-9) without the parenthesis. Click OK.
click Edit>Edit competitor and select any boat class from the drop down list. click OK
click Edit>Edit race, leave R1 selected and click OK.
Double click on Start 1.
Set the Wind index and average wind strength for Race 1 Start 1 and click OK
click Edit>Edit result, leave R1 selected and click OK.
select the results tab and select the Elapsed Time radio button
enter the elapsed time for the competitor in the race.
My problems are.
the USPN and Wind values on the edit competitor dialog are not populating after the boat is selected…
when entering an elapsed time for the competitor for the race it does not appear to calculate the corrected time.
I am sure i am just missing something simple, but i just can’t seem to find it. Any assistance that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
I have attached my ratings file and my test bwl in case that helps.
I’m not sure about your problem (1) - could be that the rating file is not in the directory that Sailwave is expecting to find it?
Problem (2): Using your test file, I populated the Buccaneer with its rating from your rating file (under edit competitor), then hit Score Series'. Going to Edit Result’, it can be seen that a Corrected Time of 0.33.28 has been calculated.

Could you let me know what operating system you are using Sailwave under? If it is Microsoft Vista then you may have a permissions problem for accessing the ratings file and not be accessing the file you think you are!

Huw,
I am using windows 7 ultimate. I don't think I am having premissions
problems because I have been able to see the wind ratings one one of
the dialogs inside sailwave, but I will check.
I haven't had time to look at it since I sent the help request, so I
have a few things to look at from the helpful responses I have
received.

Malcolm,
Thanks for the reply, you are right, if i manually populate the ratings it does seem to work with the wind indexed ratings. Unfortunately, it has to be done for each competitor even if i have already entered the ratings for that boat class.
I was putting the ratings file in the location indicated by the help file, I tried moving it to the my documents folder and changing where the program looks for it, but that didn’t help. I could always see the boats listed if I clicked the squiggly lines next to the Boat class field, but i was always selecting the boat using the drop down arrow.
I finally figured out my problem. It auto loads the wind ratings and USPN rating if i click that squiggly line and double click on the boat class to populate that field.
It seems like a bug to me, but maybe there is a reason for it that i am not familiar with.
Thanks again for the help, i am sure i will have to ask for more, but i am at least moving in the right direction.
