Implementing dual VPRS and NHC

Hi

Firstly apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere (I have looked but couldn’t find one).

I have been attempting to trial NHC in parallel with our usual VPRS/IRC cruiser racing. I managed to set up aliases and allocate NHC handicaps to them. When I input results, I anticipated that the NHC handicaps would change (it might be doing it in background but, as far as I can tell, the results do not reflect this). I am sure I am missing something (or doing something stupid) so any help would be much appreciated. I did see something about templates so that might be it. Or possibly I have got myself confused with divisions and classes. Probably doesn’t help that we try to have both classes within one sailwave file with results published separately but on the same webpage. I have attached an example file in case it helps.

I am supposed to be reporting back to the Class AGM next week but I currently am not quite sure what to tell them as I can’t make it work…

Hi Mark, I’m currently on a business trip in California so haven’t got time to look at your file right now but a couple of pointers. You must use Fleets when using NHC. second if you press F6 then R the display changes to show the ratings for each race so you can easily see if it has worked. Jon

Hi Jon

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Didn’t know that NHC needed to be Fleets and it has made a big difference! I also hadn’t noticed that ratings could be displayed - very useful.

Still having a problem, though, with trying to have two fleets with aliases in the same file - I have uploaded the revised Fleets file in case you, or anybody else who is reading this, has any ideas. The second fleet doesn’t appear to be understood as NHC.

I am also experiencing a complaint when scoring that some boats aren’t in a start - Again if anybody could throw some light on the issue, it would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I have just taken a first look at the file you attached

The first thing I have found is that you have no start time for the

start and the finishes are to be PLACE. I have spotted some other
things but without a start time the rest are meaning less :frowning:

Please advise of start times for each race and each class (Class 1

& Class 3) if different.

Kind regards,
Huw

Hi,

Had a quick look while waiting for my plane back home at LA.

First as Sailwave was reporting you didn’t have the starts set up correctly for the races 4-8.

I also created another race as you need to have one more race with NHC for it to hold the final ratings.

After re-scoring all rating for both fleets were there

File is attached

Many thanks, Jon (Hope LA was good!)

I can see where I was going wrong; your help is much appreciated. I have updated the other series files to match and everything seems to work apart from the published results which no longer show positions for the series (for NHC, the changing ratings are shown which is very useful).

Can you point me in the right direction (again!)?

Jon - You can “sort of” ignore my previous post - as I was testing I had ratings showing in the sailwave window and published from there giving the strange results.

I now have the positions correctly showing in the series table for both VPRS and NHC. Is there any (simple) way of publishing the changing NHC ratings so people can see what is happening? Even the individual race results only show the rating the boat starts with at the beginning of the season…

Hi,

Not sure if you have sorted this now. But couldn’t quite understand what you are missing. You may want to use the latest version (From the Beta section of the Sailwave downloads) 2.17.x as this has the extra ability to display the column with the rating for the next race which is what the sailors are often interested in.

Regards

Jon
