Implementing TOT on Sailwave

Our yacht club uses PHRF for broad lake evening and weekend racing. The
distribution ranges from "A" boats with PHRF handicaps of 70 to 105,
intermediary "B" boats from 110 to 140, down to "C" boats with PHRF's from
145 to 180, and Jib & Main classes with PHRF's all the way to 240...That's a
huge spread.

Do club scorers using TOT recommend using 1 TCF for everyone, or do other
PHRF clubs use different TCF for each class (like A,B,C, JAM) of boats?

More importantly, do you change the TCF (specifically the wind index =B in
the denominator) for each race? OR,
do you use a constant TCF within a race series (both long series and
regatta) even if the wind conditions change significantly from race to race?

If you change the wind index B, do you also change the A value in the
numerator in order to keep the TCF constant, and therefore the middle of
the fleet would maintain a TCF equal to 1?

I would like to hear how other clubs implemented TOT --- where all of us are
using Sailwave
because I have not found articles on the Web to be specific enough about
implementation.

Hi Bette Here is the way in which we at
the Opua Cruising Club NZ managed a fleet of out and out ocean racers a fleet of
cruising yachts ,flying fifteens ,tornados and assorted Sports boats all in one
race every Friday night. After race one we picked a
boat about fourth or fifth and made him scratch boat, then, by calculator i.e.
times the elapsed time by a figure of say .700 and adjust this figure to make
all boat corrected times within one minute of each other. [of
course the first few boats had a correction of 1.1 or more to bring them down
to the selected boat] This will need adjusting through the series but we find that
the length of races has only a slight effect and wind strength the same. We can
now finish say a Tornado and a 45foot racer within seconds on h/c. This is only
a quick method of TCF hope you can make sense of it Regards Norm
