Import results creates new helmname when crewname changes

I am trying to import race results from a csv file. SW documentation says this:
Sailwave stores helm, crew and other persons on board as one string
and this:
The Sailwave Data Import Wizard’s default behavior is to create a new Helm Name record when a crew name changes, even if the Helm Name remains the same. This is because Sailwave essentially treats each entry as a separate competitor, and if a crew name changes, it’s seen as a new entry within that boat’s overall record.

I want to force a match on the existing helmname record, even if crewname changes. Can it be done?
Thanks for your help.

Antony,

Are you trying to import race results or information like the helm, crew, etc.

Importing race results can be by many field names and the default are by RaceNo, Sail and Place See below:

The Sailwave online manual has more examples.

Peter

Peter, thank you for your response. I am importing race results with the menu item you indicate above. My problem is that SW writes a new record for helmname when crewname changes. Can I force SW to ignore crewname when matching helmname, but still import crewname for the record?

Anthony,

My experience with this race results option is to Import race results by RaceNo,Sailno and Place. See below for an example:

RaceNo,Sailno,Place
1,9012,1
1,9262,2
1,1961,3
1,4095,4
1,7250,5
1,7116,6
1,8659,7
1,6685,8
1,0192,9

There is no way to indicate a crew change.
Peter

Peter,
I am using the menu item ‘import race results’ to import theses fields:
RaceNo HelmName Crew Class SailNo Finish Division Fleet

The merge works fine until the Crew changes. Then a new record is written for the helm. I found this recently in the docs:
“The Sailwave Data Import Wizard’s default behavior is to create a new Helm Name record when a crew name changes,”

I am working around this behavior by manually merging the new record with the previous record.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Anthony,

The Import of Race Results is as it says for importing race results, it won’t change Competitor details.
I suggest that you delete the column with the Crew name from the CSV. You would only need it if you want Sailwave to create a new entry with a different crew.
Sailwave has to match all of the data you supply for it to be added to an existing competitor otherwise, it creates a new entry if there is a Mismatch
If the crew has changed and you want to to change this within Sailwave you will have to manually edit it.

Hope that helps

Jon
