Anyone got any views/solutions to the following scenario?
I am running a General Handicap Race for a large number of boats.
There are two starts (Fast & Slow) which have been set up in each race in SW (Edit Race) waiting for
the actual start times (clock time) to be entered.
My objectives are to:
- speed up the results process by entering data into a spreadsheet then importing into SW
- using the spreadsheet to post race data on the noticeboard by time of finishing (see Monday's
email to SUG)
I have the following results and start times (now entered into SW) from the Committee Boat for a
General Handicap Race (as a spreadsheet)
Class; Sail Number; Finish (clock time) and Laps.
Problem 1
SW cannot recognise laps in a different column so I need to edit the race time column.
Anyone cracked the macro to automatically edit the finish time by adding the number of laps in the
separate column eg changing 13.05.43 to 13.05.43/3??
Editing each result manually is a REAL pain, especially for lots of boats
I found it easier to edit the file as a .txt file but then had to save it as a .csv file for SW to
accept the import - not an ideal data processing solution!!
Colin: Publishing race data puts the number of laps in a separate column - would it be easy to allow
input on the same basis?
Problem 2
When I enter finish times manually through the sail number wizard, the start time is automatically
picked up
When I import the .csv race results (edited for the laps) into SW, the start time for the two fleets
reverts to zero.
It is not practical to look up which classes are in which starts so that I can enter the start time
in the .csv file
These problems are now starting to reduce the benefits from processing in a spreadsheet and I am
determined to find a solution to reducing/eliminating human frailties on the committee boat
(especially when recording finishers in big Gen Handicap fleets when it is wet, cold, windy & the CB
rolls with the waves!!) without incurring massive expenditure
With reference to your message below, are you importing a series summary
table or individual race reuslts one per line. If the latter I can add a
laps column.

I am importing individual race results, one per line.
Since writing the email someone has provided me with the solution to merging two columns i.e.
=A4&"/"&B4 where A is the time and B is the number of laps.
It would however be easier to have a separate column in the spreadsheet for the laps

This is done and uploaded in 1.79. Press F1 in the File+ImportRaceResults

Problem 1
Some very kind person came up with a function to combine the contents of two Excel cells
eg
A4 contains the time & E4 contains the laps
=A4&"/"&E4
Produces time/laps in one cell

When I enter finish times manually through the sail number
wizard, the start time is automatically

Will get back to you on this one.
Have not looked at this for quite some time
