Importing sail numbers in a q/f series

I am trying to import sail numbers (Import Sail Numbers from a CSV file) in a q/f series and the process removes the flight assignments of the race that I indicated to import the sail numbers into and probably of not having flight assignments all the finish positions are set to 1. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi Peter

You can set them easily to the default handicap with a custom template. Just use the template I posted yesterday with the video SWDemo.xls and change the formula so that it doesn’t add 0.001 it just copies

Then save it as SWRatingReset.xls for future use if you want

Or It doesn’t take very long to do it manually as once you do the first one it’s only a repeat of enter backspace enter to do the next

Sorry Jon,

It seems that I added my post to the wrong category. My post is about importing sail numbers: https://forum.sailingresults.co.uk/t/importing-sail-numbers-in-a-q-f-series/6315

Hi Peter,

I am sorry I do not understand.

Are you trying to import race results not competitors? As you mention “race that I indicated to import the sail numbers into”. If so the CSV file needs the following columns minimum with the column headers in row 1, for more information How do I import a list of race results? | Sailwave
SailNo,Place
180000,1
.
.
.

Using this CSV file syntax I have successfully imported the CSV file into race Q3 and scored the file. However, I note that for Q1 & Q2 races all competitors have a race result of 1!

Kind regards,
Huw
PS - From Sailwave version 2.25.5 onwards it is also possible to import flights as part of a competitors CSV file. - Flights | Sailwave

Hi Huw,

I am in China and looking after the scoring of the ILCA World championships. The locals don’t know Sailwave and are entering the finish data (sail numbers) in a CSV file.

I am using the following Sailwave option in import the data:

As per the above instructions, each row contains the sail number in order of the race finish.

However, when I import the sail numbers as above the flight assignments for that race are removed.

I can get around it by adding for each row an incremental number after the sail number, but the import sail number list as described above would work out much better.

Peter

Hi Peter,

I had sort of guessed you were at a major ILCA event but wasn’t sure where.

I appreciate it would be good if you did not have to create the extra extra column with incremental number. At least there is a ‘fix’ for the problem.

I think there might be a bit of text missing form the information line starting ‘Each line is expected to contain SailNo. …’ the missing text should ’ and finish place’

In case you are not aware, there is a quick way in a spreadsheet of adding sequential numbers. Enter 1 in the column next to the first SailNo, then double click the little square icon when the box is highlighted. As long as there are no blanks in the SailNo column, they will will be assigned the next number in the sequence until the first blank row in the SailNo column.

All best with the regatta

Kind regards,
Huw

Hi Peter,

So if I understand correctly

If you use the option

  • Import Sail numbers from CSV
This works but it removes the flight assignment
  • Import Results from CSV
This works but you have to add an additional column to the CSV and then the flight assignment remains the same
The second option I think is probably the quickest at this moment
If you do option 1 then you could restore the Flight assignment from the flight field after the import doing 1 colour at a time so if you have 2 or 3 flight colours this should be quite quick

The Third option is to modify Sailwave to not clear the flight info when using option 1. I could get you a new version this evening if that helps.
Let me know if you would like me to do that

Hi Peter,

Apologies, I now understand the issue you are having fully.

I had not remembered that ‘Importing sail numbers from a CSV’ is a short form of ‘Import results from CSV’. Reminded of it now and updated user guide for when next released, highlighting issue you have had.

Kind regards,
Huw

Hi Jon,

I don’t think that you need to create a special version for me, a fix with your next release should be fine. I’ll use the Import Results from CSV for now with a spreadsheet script that I created.
