Individual Handicapping

Our Club races a mixed fleet of dinghies and cats and currently uses TopYacht to score. I have a few general questions.

  1. Is Sailwave able to score races using Australian Sailing Yardsticks and individual handicaps - updating handicaps after each race?
  2. We race series and consolidate results covering the whole season. This is not straightforward in Topyacht - I export all the results and manipulate/compile them outside of Topyacht using Excel. Will Sailwave make it easier?
  3. Is the user experience similar to Topyacht?
  4. Does it have advantages over Topyacht?

Thank you, Peter

Hello Peter,

Welcome to the Sailwave User Group forum.

Answers to your questions:

  1. Sailwave is able to score using Australian Sailing Yardsticks and can do progressive handicaps ("Updating handicaps after each race’)
  2. Sailwave can merge separate series into one season long series, it is quite easy to do in Sailwave. You do eed to consider discard points though.
  3. The user experience is different to TopYacht. I have used TopYacht in the past and did not have any problem adjusting from Sailwave to TopYacht. I went back to Sailwave because I preferred it and your last question.
  4. Sailwave is free to use with no cost if you abide by just one rule. Sailwave also works completely offline, no Internet connection required except when want to publish results to either your own club/class/event website or the Sailwave server.

Sailwave is used globally for a range of events from single class racing to multi-fleet international events.

I hope that helps. If you have additional questions then get in touch.
Kind regards,
Huw
