Input of elapsed times in seconds

Hi All,

We are using an older version of sailwave (2.02) at the club but I’m looking to go to the latest version. We currently input elapsed times in seconds but I understand the latest versions have changed the input format.

Could someone tell me what the new options are? ie what seperators are allowed? How do you input in secs? What happens with minutes over 60? Seconds over 60? Minutes over 100?

Currently 3245 is 3245 sec (54mins 05 sec) but would be read as 32min 45 sec by the new versions as I understand it? If I update, will it recalculate my previous results like this? I don’t want to download the latest version and then loose my previous series results!

Thanks

Hi Chris,

If you update and recalculate it should work fine as it is only the input via the sailno wizard that has changed. But it is prudent to always keep a backup copy of results in some safe location. To input in seconds with the new release simply precede them with a “+” symbol this is on the numeric keypad so should still be nice and quick to do.

There is some documentation on the the Sailwave site under Help - Reference - Elapsed time extensions for sailno wizard

Copy here

As of version 2.8.3, the completely numeric form of the elapsed time syntax is extended as described below. To force the standard interpretation (seconds) use a + prefix. The extended formats are converted by Sailwave into standard form and appear in the results as such. When doing this conversion a semicolon separator is assumed. Other standard formats are unaffected and can still be used.

mss
0m:ss
mmss
mm:ss
hmmss
0h:mm:ss
hhmmss
hh:mm:ss
dhhmmss
0d:hh:mm:ss
ddhhmmss
dd:hh:mm:ss
The following constraints are applied, resulting in a single beep if broken:-

0 < ss < 60
0 < mm < 100 (no hours specified)
0 < mm < 60 (hours specified)
0 < hh < 100 (no days specified)
0 < hh < 24 (days specified)

Examples:-

+123 = 123
123 = 1:23
12345 = 1:23:45

I know it has my name against it but the version that is there now has been rewritten by Colin to more in line with his format and it now infers that you can’t enter mins greater than 60 which is not strictly true although it is correct that it will check Hrs, Min and Secs but this depends upon the number of digits that you enter.

My original documentation was something similar to this

Elapsed Times

  • When using the Sail Number Wizard to enter Elapsed times you can now enter them in the format 4327 and this gets formatted automatically to 43:27. 20351 would get formatted to 02:03:51 This should speed up entry of elapsed times and give a consistent display of the times. Earlier versions would take this as 4327 seconds. If you really want to enter times in seconds you can still do this by entering it as +4327.
  • So depending upon the number of digits you enter it works differently
  • 3-4 digits and it assumes you are entering Mins and secs so 923 becomes 09:23. 7546 will become 75:46 so you can go upto 9959 which becomes 99:59 if you want to go over 100 mins you still can but you have to manually enter the : so you would enter 105:46: Seconds are checked to be <60
  • 5-6 digits and it assumes you are entering Hr:Min:Sec. Hours can go to 99, mins and seconds are check to be <60 display format will be hh:mm:ss
  • 7-8 digits and it assumes you are entering Days:Hrs:Min:Sec Days can go to 99, Hrs are check for <24, Mins and Secs are checked to be < 60 display format will be dd:hh:mm:ss
so between the two versions of the documentation I hope this clarifies how it works.

Correction - Colin's version does now say you can have mins greater than 60 - My apologies didn't realise he had changed it again.
