I understand what you
mean. I once started a project to parse the blw-file with PHP, but no one will
release any documentation on the file, thus it would be hard to get it working
for different versions. If the file had been an XML-file, things would have got
a lot easy. Yes, I know that sailwave can export as XML, but this feature came
after I gave up. There is also a problem concerning editing of the XML-file –
sailwave can’t open it again.
The reason for not making
any “documentation” on the blw-format is that Colin wants to be
free to make changes for the format (I got an email from him some time ago concerning
this). I don’t know what he wants to be free to change, but if it is to
add more fields to compeditors I can’t see any problem, neither for the
current format or an XML-format (even though XML would be easiest to parse with
tools like SimpleXML and so on.)
In my project, I also
planed to let my CMS create a basic blw-file to be used directly in sailwave,
thus removing the “import of compeditors part”. This should also
have included the correct scoringsystem and so on. It is not really difficult, if
someone just can tell me what the different fields in each line in the blw-file
means.

The above is as far as I
can figure out the data for one compeditor. Each line is for one
compeditorfield, and contains 1. fieldname, 2. value, 3. compeditorID and 4.
empty? What is this last field?
Actually, all the lines
contains placeholders for 4 values. The first is always an ID of the line,
which again is divided in to what I think is groups of valuetypes where the
first couple of chars describes the goups. Ex: “comp” for
compeditor, “ser” for series and so on.

Hi Espen,
Many thanks for your reply, - yes I know that you can ftp an html
file to a website. I was really wondering if anyone had found a neat
and simple way to integrate this information into Joomla - so that
the results are then automatically listed in some page somewhere
whenever someone ftp’s the results to the site (without having to
create static links to hmtml file that do not contain the same
formatting as the rest of the site…

I’m new to sailwave, but we are looking at using it for doing race
results at our sailing club. We’ve just re-done our website so that
it
runs under the Joomla content management system and I’m wondering
what
the best method is for incorporating results from sailwave ?
I know you can publish to a html file and then cut/paste into a
wrapper
or an article, but I was wondering if there was a more ‘elegant’
way of
doing this - such that results might be stored in a database or
that
results could be uploaded to a directory where Joomla ‘finds’ them
and
then lists them on the correct page.
Any thoughts from seasoned users of sailwave and Joomla would be
much
appreciated…
