If you have multiple fleets in a series and one fleet sails fewer
races than the others, the fleet with no finishes in a particular
race is not calculated at all for that race and the result field for
all boats in that fleet are left blank. This is a useful and correct
way to deal with such a situation!
However, should you (accidentally?) enter a finish for a boat from a
fleet not participating in a certain race, then all other boats in
that fleet are automatically scored DNC for that race. To correct
this, one would like to go back and clear the erroneous finish such
that the non-participating fleet changes back to 'blank' instead of
DNC. Unfortunately, this is more difficult than it sounds... The only
(or at least, easiest) way I can find to delete a single finish is to
select the competitor with an erroneous entry and use "Edit+Clear
results for selected competitor" and then, re-enter all of the
previous race results for that competitor.
I offer several solutions to this problem, each with its own merits:
1) Include a "No result" (blank) option in the "Edit result..."
window. Presently, if you merely delete the finish place (or time,
etc.), the result defaults to '0' (not 'blank' or DNC) and causes
difficulties later in scoring.
2) Allow the "Clear results for selected competitor" function to also
specify which particular race results are to be cleared. This would
avoid re-entering the previous, correct finishes as described above.
3) Include an option in the "Edit race+Starts" window to omit a given
start (however it may be specified) from the results of the race.
This option has the added utility of allowing you to (after the fact)
omit a particular race from a particular fleet's series due to later
abandonment by the Jury, etc. while retaining the recorded race data
for reference (not to mention other fleets' valid data!).
