is this a bug in sailwave or chips high points scoring

I came across this during the week and thought it ought to be shared if you have
36 starters or more the score for the first boat stays at 100 regardless of more
than 36 boats racing though the other boats scores change but when it gets to 38
and 39 boat entries the second place boat scores stay the same, just for these
entries.

so if you have 36 boats or more the first place boat scores do not change.

if you look at 29 to 35 boats the scores for first place boat are 99.9 untill 36 boats are racing then it stayes at 100 regardless of fleet size is this correct or is this a bug.

thought high points scoring was that if more boats raced then you obtained more
points. Seems to suggest that after 36 boats the first place boat gets the same
results regardless.

Not a bug - this is how CHIP works - its based on a scale of 10 to 100, with points for competitors fitted into this range, according to the CHIPS formula.

If you want a linear high point system, use a custom formula such as S - P + 1

If you have 36 boats in a race do you really ever get to the situation
where maybe only 5 sail on another day? Thats where CHIPS is designed
to cope where big changes in competitor numbers come into play otherwise
just use either a linear high point or even the Appendix A Low Point
systems...

Low point - high point is one thing, linear, logarithmic or othe is anoter one.
ISAF uses linear high point for the fleet rankings.
The reason is simple. Rankings are based on the results of the last two years, the range is evolving every month. So the number of competitors does too. Most of them are not sailing more than 20% of qualifying events, do 80% DNC's should have variable points...

The ISAF ranking formula 101-p is not really fair.
Last year, the World Championship Laser Radial was in Auckland, NZ, and just the newt week there was Princess Sofia Trophy in Barcelona. The top sailors were in Auckland, more than 100, including more than 20 of the World's top 30, so a mid-range result was 30 points worth. In Barcelona, 50 competitors of lower level, no points for last 30%, otherwise 65 points for an unknown and unexperienced athlete...
