I am hoping you guys can help - I have volunteered myself to design & produce a Lap Record sheet for our OD team to take lap counts & times particularly for Handicap fleet racing, prior to entering into Sailwave. I need it to be simple yet clear - sometimes we get 40+ handicap boats ranging from Fifteens to Optimists and we are used to working to Average Lap times. I expect that we just need to record Sail Numbers & times - does anyone know of a template that I could use?
Our paper sheet has a grid with the following headers:
Sail Number, Class, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Hours, Minutes, Seconds, Total Laps.
The idea is that you write down the sail number and class when the boats first cross the line and tick that they have finished lap 1. You then add a tick in the column for lap 2 when a boat completes their second lap and so on until the finish. At the finish, you fill in the hours, minutes, seconds and total number of laps completed too.
The reason for the Total Laps column is to remove the ambiguity when that arises when some people record a tick for the last lap and some forget and just write down the time.
A much simpler way of recording the finishes is to use Spray EasyTimer to record the laps and finish on a computer.(http://SprayEasyTimer.webs.com)

Solution below is excellent for small fleets or large fleets which have pre-entered, so that you can print a list by sail number before racing starts
The problem is fleet sizes in between
As a group of boats come through the line/gate it can be very difficult to find the number before the next boat is called
Also, if there is a wide range of PYs, their order after lap 1 soon changes
I have attached a form which I use for General Handicap racing which you may find useful
