Comment: We are running a 6 hour race to support the RNLI
Can sailwave be used to score the race on a lap by lap basis to give a leader board through out the race
I’m not sure if it will work, but you could consider treating every lap as a race and the results of the last lap (race) would define the winner. The individual race results would be the overall leader at that lap. For every boat, the finish time of the previous race would be the start time of the next race and this has to be entered manually.

Why don’t you simply rescore the race every [whatever] time interval with time through the line and number of completed laps? You could simply save as the file each time with a new name if you want to preserve the progress.

Hi,
You have already had two suggestions and I will add a slight
variation. However, it would be helpful to have an indication of
- the PN range for the boats taking part
- the number of boats taking part
- how many laps could be completed by the fastest boats
- how the overall winner is to be decided
- best overall corrected time
- most completed laps
- other
All these could have an impact on the most usable solution.
So having managed 12-hour races in the past with
-
a wide range of PN [Hurricane 5.9 to Laser]
-
a relatively small number of boats [20 or so]
-
large course [Datchet Water SC]
We did it manually on a large sheet of paper, as it was before
Sailwave was available and spreadsheets. This allowed us: -
to know for each lap the fastest elapsed time
-
to know for each lap the best corrected time
-
to know the fastest elapsed lap time overall
-
to know the best corrected time overall
So to Sailwave. I think Sailwave can be used to provide you a set
of results for each lap and an overall result but it will involve
more data entry.I am not sure of the best way to set-up Sailwave. My initial
thought is to score each lap as a race; this will involve more
data entry, as for each boat for each lap a start & finish
time will have to be entered. I would have a final race which will
have the initial start time, the final finish time and the number
of laps completed for each boat entered to produce an overall
result.
Kind regards,
Huw

laps about 20
Just a quick thought. With that range of PY numbers, and assuming typical variations in performance, it would not be at all surprising for the fastest boat to do 50% more laps than the slowest boat. So you need to be ready for that. I expect I’m indulging in grandmother training, but thought it worth mentioning.
