Locales

Anders, (et al?)

I have been working on the new locale scheme (as previously described) in
the background - but it has many wrinkles - it's amazing how many strings
are not appropriate for translation. I'm also worried you're stuck on 1.45.
So I propose to backtrack (yet again) and put back the locale scheme as it
was in 1.45. I confirm that this scheme itself still needs work; i.e. it's
not a finished bit of dev. Hope that's OK with you...

Regards,
Colin J

Hi Colin,

well for a start. I have distributed 1.45 with the Swedish
translations through my homeclub website. I am not shure how many
Swedish users we have. But I follow your work very carefully - "beers
included". So if "we are the only users with locales" drop the
translationproject for the moment and continue to develop Sailwave
the way "we all want" maybe when version 2 i settled then we can take
up the International versions. Sure I would like to help.

Develop: Printing directly to printer for the scooringboard at the
events. And ofcourse the easy way to put results on the internet.

By the way has anyone found Sailwave to be slow?! I have, mabe som
antivirus isues or it could be the amount of RAM (1Gb on XP) after a
few on/off it seems to run like a "cat".....

Right now we are planning for two big events for Optimists and
Europe. These two events will merge together and the result of that
will be used for The Worlds and Europeans!!! More than 250 dinghies.

Hi Anders,

It's (locales) already back in 1.47beta3 which is on the web site; I didn't
like the idea of leaving you (et al) behind the coalface. However, I would
wait until the final release version of 1.47 before you redistribute it
because there are a few issues in beta3 that need resolving. The latest
beta also has facilities to publish directly to a web site...

NB: Sailwave could be slow because it's in Locale mode - I don't cache
anything - every time a window is opened it's looking in the locale file for
the translations and applying them to the window. I'll add a caching layer
to see if it helps (easy). Does the memory footprint go up as you use
Sailwave? i.e. is it a memory leak? I've always found it to be pretty
snappy personally...

Colin
