Long Club series - DNC's

I know this is easy to do and I’m just missing it. We are scoring our club series which is 26 races over 13 race days throughout the year. Not everyone show’s up for every race (which is fine).

Sailwave is automatically scoring DNC’s for folks that are not there on a particular day.

How does one surpress the DNC score sailwaive is automatically recording? It really needs to be blank or “null”

Hi.

I don't know why you need to supress the DNC-code. How do you else
split between folks that come every time and folks, which is coming
on and off? Isn't it like punishing people who show up?

But that is probably something you do know and defines in the SI.

To your question:
I don't know if it is possible to supress the DNC, because it is a
common code, to show that peole didn't participate in the actually
race.

But, if you're interessting in, that people get 0 point, when the
don't show up, you simply define the DNC to give 0.

Under [Setup]-[scoring systems] click [edit], find [scoring codes]
find and click on DNC and [edit]
On the upcoming window, under [method] you choose [score a fixed
number of points N] (in the bottom) and type 0 in dthe box [value] in
the top.

This way you should have set it up to give 0 point for a DNC.
I do know that it still type DNC on the result page, but it count as 0

No. We try to encourage folks to show up - but we understand not everyone will make 13 independent race day’s over the course of spring/summer/fall. SI’s say to “qualify” you must sail 1/2 the races. The bonus to folks who show up more often is the final winner is determined by the best 13 of 26 races. So if you race 26, you will have 13 throw outs.

I did fix the DNC to be 0, which works, my problem now is to average only the races that each sailor actualy sailed. Sailwave is giving me a nett of total points/total races - which for my purposes is incorrect. With DNC @ 0, it there are 4 races and I only sail 2 and get a 4th and a 4th, sailwave gives me a nett of 2 - when I need it to be 4. Any way to get around that? (which is originally why I wanted to surpress DNC)

If you leave DNC as standard and set up 13 discards, SW will select the best 13 of 26 races as required, i.e discarding up to 13 DNC’s or high scoring races. For interim results, reduce the no. of discards accordingly (can be done in the discard profile).

I am probably missing something here but under ‘scoring system/series scoring’ you can set a “Discard profile” and “Qualification profile” which may accomplish what you are trying to do?

At WSC ( http://ussailing.net/waccamaw/ ) we discard 1/3 of the races actually sailed (0,0,1,1,1,2,2…) and require that you sail in 1/3 of the races hosted (1,1,1,2,2,2,3,…) . A long series DNC gets a high score but is discarded. DNF is just last. All clubs try to balance sailing skills with participation and change from time to time.

To keep CJ sane, I try to write my SI around what SailWave can do :slight_smile:

You don’t need to change or suppress
DNC’s. In reading your note you have 26 races with 13 discards, you just
need to setup the discard profile within SailWave correctly.

The discard profile would be
0,1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,9,9,10,10,11,11,12,12,13

You also state that in order to qualify
you must also sail half the races. Does that mean that a competitor who sails
eleven races is not scored? If so you also need to setup a qualification
profile. The qualification profile would be the same as the discard profile.
