Mac Help?

not a view likely to gain much support, imho.
however, since Sailwave is (I think) written in Lua (and please do correct me if I've got this wrong), and Lua will supposedly compile with any ANSI standard C or C++ compiler (see http://www.lua.org/faq.html), a strategy would be to compile Sailwave on a Mac (or any 'similar' Linux/Unix) system. But I guess that (a) Colin doesn't have a Mac and (b) he doesn't want the hassle.

It would be very interesting to know the split of platforms used. I suspect that the vast majority are Windows, but that the small minority of Linux and Mac users generate a lot of traffic

Hi Malcolm,

Jon has already replied that Sailwave is written using the Clarion

development environment, which he upgraded recently to the latest
version. Using the latest version of Clarion has broken Sailwave
under Wine on Linux, so the version of Sailwave to use in a
Linux/Wine environment is the last build (2.02b6) of the 2.02
series. One does have to sort out font issues but they have been
pretty well documented in this SUG.

Colin did include Lua in the Sailwave executable a while ago, for a

short while, but some people had problems with their Windows
environment and it got removed. It was the intention to use Lua to
enable Sailwave users to produce their own reports and layouts.

Having been watching this thread about using Sailwave under Wine or

other ways of running Microsoft Windows on a Mac, it seems that some
are having success.

I appreciate that native versions for each environment would be

great, but I don’t think it will be happening any time soon.

Kind regards,

Huw
