MacOS Users of Sailwave

Hi Users of Sailwave on Mac Systems,

I am currently going through the installation instructions I put

together previously with the help of users on this forum. The
current instructions written in 2014 are for using WineBottler. I
would like to include instructions for installing alternatives to
WineBottler for installing WINE on MacOS systems. A screencast was
made available by Jon for installing WineBottler.

Anyone able and willing to help creating installation

instruction. It would be great if screen captures of the process
and/or a screencast of the installation could be provided.

Anyone able to provide instructions on how to create an icon for

the desktop and/or the Applications folder for Sailwave, so a user
just has to double-click the icon to start Sailwave?

WineBottler

The WineBottler web site says it is compatible with MacOS 10.6

[Snow Leopard] to 10.13 [High Sierra]. There have been two
releases of MacOS since 10.13 [High Sierra], 10.14 [Mojave]
released September 2018 & 10.15 [Catalina] currently in Beta
but due for release later this year.

Questions

  1. Is anyone successfully running WineBottler v2 on MacOS 10.14

[Mojave] and /or on MacOS 10.15 [Catalina]?

  1. If yes to Q1 did you have any problems and if so what

problems?

  1. Has anyone successfully used WineBottler to bottle Sailwave

and make it appear as an icon on the desktop or in the
applications folder?
HomeBrew

Questions

  1. Has anyone used HomeBrew as an alternative to WineBottler?
  2. If yes to Q1 did you have any problems and if so what

problems?
Native WINE

I know someone has after a bit of work installed and used native

WINE from WineHQ. Would someone who has used native WINE be
willing to write installation instructions please?

I look forward to any assistance SUG users of Sailwave on MacOS

systems can provide.

PS- I will also be updating the instructions for installing

Sailwave on Linux systems.

Kind regards,

Huw

Hi Huw,

Here’s some answers to your questions regarding Sailwave with Wine Bottler on Mojave (10.14.5).

  1. Is anyone successfully running WineBottler v2 on MacOS 10.14 [Mojave] and /or on MacOS 10.15 [Catalina]? Yes, but on Mojave.
  2. If yes to Q1 did you have any problems and if so what problems? No, no problems. Just make sure that the Wine App is also copied to the Applications folder.
  3. Has anyone successfully used WineBottler to bottle Sailwave and make it appear as an icon on the desktop or in the applications folder?..
Onece Sailwave is installed using Wine Bottler, go to the Sailwave Website (https://www.sailwave.com/ media/logos/) and download the swsmall80.jpg logo file. Open this in Preview (or other imaging App) and copy the image (cmd+c).

Go to the Applications folder and locate your Sailwave Application. Right-click on the App and choose Get Info. In the Get Info window single click on the icon in the top-left corner. This will select it (blue outline), now you’ll need to use the Paste shortcut cmd+v. Da daaaa, there’s your icon.

If someone could create a transparent .png of the sail logo I believe the white of the icon would then be invisible.

Now drag the Sailwave App to your Dock to put it there and/or Right-Click and choose Make Alias to create a shortcut to the App that can be placed on the desktop (or anywhere else it would be useful.

Huw,

I just upgraded to “Wine Devel.app” version 4.12.1 downloaded from WineHQ. Attached is what I wrote down, but these instructions probably still need further development as I most likely left out some steps. But maybe this provides a starting point. The attached file is MS Word.

I use Wine only to run Sailwave, and this works for that limited use.

Hi Matt,

Thanks you very much for taking the time to write some notes, it

is much appreciated.

I will give you credit when I incorporate into the section of the

guide on installing on Mac Systems.

Kind regards,

Huw
