In preparation for next year's Finn Gold Cup in Falmouth I'm grinding the 2009 Gold Cup results through Sailwave (2.02 build 6). Basically there are 10 races, then the 11th race which is both a Medal _and_ final race. the top 10 after 10 races take part in the medal race, the others in the final race. Medal race competitors get double points, the rest are treated normally. so far so good, and Sailwave lets me set up an 11th 'medal' race for the first 10 competitors and the remaining 77. what I'm unclear about is how the final/medal race is actually scored. I have it scored as places 1 through 10 for the medallists, and 1 through 77 for the others. when allotting points, the two 'firsts' now share points and get 1.5 each. I briefly experimented by making every place unique (i.e. places 1 through 87, no duplicate firsts, seconds, etc), figuring that SW might figure out which to allocate to medal & final race all by itself. sadly that didn't seem to be the case. and no evidence of the points doubling for the medallists. yes I did leave the appropriate 'medallist scores double points' box ticked. but which other box have I failed to tick?

Sailwave can do this, we've done it at Sail for Gold. I'll try
and dig out a file for you aas an example. I think essentially
what you do it add two starts to the race. One for medalists and
one for everybody else. Sailwave then gets the positions
correctly both groups of sailors in the sailno wiz. Because it
knows its a medal race there should be no shared problems as you
are describing but I must be honest and say I can’t remember the
details. I’ll dig out the example…
