Merge Issue.

I need to compute High Points for the season that includes all of results from the 3 series: Spring, Summer, Fall and am using the Sunset Scoring System. When I merge in Spring and Summer .blw files, all works fine. However when I merge in Fall .blw (either by itself .blw or into the composite with the merged Spring and Summer .blw), it’s aliased results for Overall are all assigned a finish time of 0:21:01. I then need to delete all of the aliased competitors, and then recreate the aliased competitor, and all is fine. I do not understand why it works correctly for the Spring and Summer but not the Fall .blw files. Attached are all files. The 20014 High Points.blw only has the merge of the Fall Series to make the file smaller.

Thanks,

Tom Owen

Hi Tom,

What version of Sailwave are you using?

I recently did some corrections to the merge and also some enhancements.

The Very latest full install is at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/220425/sw2_17_2.exe

or the latest exe only is at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/220425/sailwave.exe

This is 2.17.2

Difference between 2.17.1 and 2.17.2 is a fix for a loop if you define a scoring code as being scored like itself - pre 2.17.2 you got a warning but couldn’t get out of the loop

If it still is an issue with this one I’ll have a look

Jon,

I was using 2.17.1. The full install appears to install 2.17.0, so I replaced Sailwave.exe with the latest Sailwave.exe and that appears to be 2.17.2.

However, I get the same erroneous results with all 3 versions, 2.17.1, 2.17.0, 2.17.2.

Jon,

The problem occurs when Fleet is a selection criteria. I need Fleet since the each if the parent series have the aliased “Overall” fleet and the results are different in the Overall Fleet than in either the Ports or Laser fleets. When the merge is done without using Fleet as a selection criteria, are the Overall Fleet results included since class and helm would still match? If not, then the Overall Fleet can be reconstructed in the merged file. If so, I believe the results would be in error.

Tom - the problem stems from the merging of Aliased competitors because the Aliased competitor has a link to the original competitor which is the Sailwave ID in the file but in different files this will be a different number so the linking of aliases will go wrong

If after the merge you edit the Aliased competitors and select the Alias tab then manually correct these - it may work but needs testing

Jon,

I believe there are still problems with merging. The only way I could get this to work correctly was to save the individual series files without the aliased competitors and then merge those results. I also have to manually delete the competitors that I know did not race. Attached are the 3 series files and the Season High Points that I am trying to merge into. I am using version 2.17.2.

Hi Tom,

I merged Spring, Summer and Fall low points and got the file attached. Could you save me some time and tell me where it is wrong.

As I said in the previous post - Merging is not really designed to work with Alias’s but would be interested to know how far off it is.

Jon,

The merged file you sent is fine. I was able to duplicate your results today. My process is to delete all competitors and all races. Then merge in the individual files. Then delete all aliased competitors due to the known merging issues. Then recreate the aliases. Next mark all sailed as included and all not sailed as excluded. I do not know what was happening last night, but I could not get it to work correctly. I had multiple instances of Sailwave running, and that may have contributed to the issue. Today I only had 1 instance running. The errors I was seeing last night had scores for Passion of the Wind when she never sailed in any series and was marked excluded in each series.

Sorry for the intrusion,

Tom

Hi Tom,

I merged Spring, Summer and Fall low points and got the file attached. Could you save me some time and tell me where it is wrong.

As I said in the previous post - Merging is not really designed to work with Alias’s but would be interested to know how far off it is.

Regards

I am merging as shown below:

Any insight or pointers would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom Owen

Tom - the problem stems from the merging of Aliased competitors because the Aliased competitor has a link to the original competitor which is the Sailwave ID in the file but in different files this will be a different number so the linking of aliases will go wrong

If after the merge you edit the Aliased competitors and select the Alias tab then manually correct these - it may work but needs testing

Hi Tom,

I tried it and it seemed to work for me without looking too hard, I’ve attached the file so let me know if its good or bad

What parameters did you use for the match - I was using Class and Helm as per the screen shot below

Thanks,
